The second single to be taken from the superb debut album of Kuffdam hit the stores under Vandit's digital label with a remix from Styrafoamkid. This should have ripples running through your speakers...
The faith Vandit have put in Kuffdam have been rewarded by the debut of his, a little delayed admittedly, but nerveless outstanding debut album. The album is a mixture of his part production under the Kuffdam & Plant banner and his very own productions. He has already had one release from the album 'Burning Up' that was a superb uplifting driving Trance affair that I quite enjoyed not to mention I'm sure a lot of others. His new single from the album goes deeper into the Trance sound and heads off on a progressive route with great effect. The remix is fro a little known by me Electro House producer called Styrafoamkid but its not your typical Electro remix, its deep with lots of feeling.
:: Original Mix :: Styrafoamkid Remix
The Original Mix is the track that introduced Kuffdam's artist album and it was the perfect start to the album with its progressive build and deep nurtured beat. Good things can come in small packages and this track is the perfect example with it being just under five minutes long, quite unusual in the Trance scene with most tracks being seven or eight minutes in length. Don’t let the short nature of the track put you off as the great production inside will leave you gagging for more. The rippling introduction with its soft snare kicks and main kick with a rumbling bass that slides in a deep dark beat set things up very well. The sound is easy on the ear and soothing to the soul with a very progressive feel. The main beat does slide off with swooping synth sounds riding the main breakdown. The sound twists and turns until the main string of stuttered bars pulsate in. Kuffdam said this one was a bit on the Electro side; maybe it is but on a deeper level to what you would normally expect. The end of the track just fizzles out with little warning which is why it is so short but you will keep going back for the main bar riff in here which is fantastic.
Styrafoamkid is an artist that I know little about but just doing a quick check on his style he is very much an Electro House buff. The remix is not really a remix to me but just the original left un touched with added percussion and sounds to set off a slightly different flavour. The sequence is identical but the change in here is the addition of a backing electro guitar that seems in from the foreground and soft guitar strings once the beat comes in. It is as if he's just played the original and recorded himself on the extra instruments over the top. The guitar riff does work well within the track I'll give it that but as a remix I think more could have been done.
Conclusion:
The original mix is a real corker, it’s simple, short and just has a good vibe to it. It's a track that would suit the opening of a set really well and I think a little Psy influenced with the Beat sound, progressive in its build and a hint of Electro with the riff. The remix just adds a few spices and although it is good, it’s not really re-inventing the wheel. All in all another essential Kuffdam release!
