© Chris LebingJosh Wink has been digging around the Chris Liebing back catalogue and taken a track from his ‘Evolver’ album ‘Eye C’ and delivered quite a sensational remix of it…

Josh Wink puts his own spin on Chris Liebing’s “Eye C,” out now on CLR. Taken from Liebing’s Evolver album, the original already carried a dark, uneasy tension. Wink leans further into that mood, giving the track a harder acid edge without losing its hypnotic pull.
His version starts low and heavy. Rumbling drums drive the track while the synths become less stable with every turn. Acid lines start to bite through the mix, the hi-hats sharpen, and fragments of the original vocal hang over the groove. Wink lets the pressure build, strips it back, then brings it up again without forcing the moment.

That restraint makes the remix work. It has enough weight for peak time, but the real draw is in the tension underneath. Wink takes his time and trusts the groove, something that has always separated his records from more obvious club tools.

Liebing’s original is already built for the late hours. It rolls forward on pulsing synths and tight percussion while broken vocal phrases move in and out of focus. Wink doesn’t fight that mood. He pushes deeper into it, using acid and movement to make the track feel more unsettled as it develops.

“Eye C” comes from Evolver, Liebing’s first album made entirely from his own solo productions. The wider project includes work with Luke Slater, Charlotte de Witte and Daniel Miller. Wink is the latest artist to revisit material from the record. Thus far, the remix has received support from techno luminaries including Dubfire, Terence Fixmer, Maceo Plex / Maetrik, Truncate, Richie Hawtin, Alan Fitzpatrick, Marco Bailey, Dave Clarke, Ken Ishii, Marco Faraone, Nicole Moudaber, Sam Paganini, The Advent, and more.

“Chris and I have been friends and colleagues for many years,” Wink says. “We’ve DJed together, spent time in the studio, traveled together, and hung out all over the world. I’ve also had the pleasure of watching his family grow. I’ve been a fan of Chris for a long time, both as a producer and as a person. In 2009, I asked him to remix my track ‘Counter Clock 319’ from *When a Banana Was Just a Banana*. Seventeen years later, I finally got to return the favor when he asked me to remix ‘Eye C.’ Chris felt this was the right track for me because of its acid nature, which immediately gave me something to work with. The original pointed me in a clear direction, and I had a lot of fun. I actually finished the remix pretty quickly. What made the experience even better was hearing how much Chris enjoyed the result. He often tells me how proud he is to play it and how well the crowd reacts. Whenever I’m feeling a little down about my production, I can send Chris a mix and count on him to come back with some overly kind words. That’s the kind of friend and colleague he is.”

The remix fits naturally into Wink’s long history of taking other artists’ music somewhere unexpected. His credits include Radiohead, Moby, Sting, Depeche Mode, Radio Slave and Dave Clarke, among others. The same instinct runs through his own classic catalog, from “Higher State of Consciousness” and “Don’t Laugh” to “I’m Ready,” “Stay Out All Night” and “Meditation Will Manifest.”

Wink has remained busy in 2026. His recent “Futurama” single looked back to the energy of his first Los Angeles rave set without turning into a nostalgia exercise. The 607 Sessions series continues to give him room to explore stripped-back club music, while his Found Sounds mixes for Apple Music show a quieter side of his taste. Ovum Recordings, the label he founded in Philadelphia, is now in its fourth decade.

With “Eye C,” Wink stays close to the darkness of Liebing’s original and makes it feel more volatile. You can hear his fingerprints all over it.
