The first single from Kuffdam's forthcoming album is a track you might have heard floating about last summer. The vibe was good back then and with the new mixes this one should get you burning up...

You know it's a good record on Vandit when its released on the main label and not the digital imprint, although whichever label it's on Vandit always seem to release quality. For number eighty nine on Vandit Records comes the latest and debut single release from Kuffdam. You may have heard him in his collaboration guise as Kuffdam & Plant but he has now moved into solo production. 'Burning Up' is the single that is taken from his forthcoming artist album 'Network' and is a record that I first heard last year. It was on Paul van Dyk's quite superb Cream Ibiza compilation and Paul doesn’t put many lemons in his mixes. The original mix is joined by a pumping remix from Greg Downey and a house style Starkillers & Leeds mix. The end result on your speakers is quite pleasing and worth investigating.

:: Original Mix
:: Greg Downey Remix
:: Starkillers & Austin Leeds Remix

The Original Mix gets things started to really show off Kuffdam's skills as a solo producer. The mood with this one is slightly dark in places with a deep uplifting twist added to the mix. On the build up the beat kicks strong but there is a neat shuffle with the drum kicks and bubbling under belly on the bass that filters down ready for the break. The vocal breaks into the track and beat cuts away to leave the uplifting melody build from near silence in the background. The chords beep louder as the vocal sweeps from left to right. There is a real deep sound in here that captivates the senses and works very well in creating a vibrant atmosphere. The shuffling kicks add to the mood you get with this and the vocal is deep and dark.

Greg Downey is known for picking up the pace with his remixes and that’s what he does with this remix, he turns up the heat. You notice the change in tempo right from the very first beat with a stronger thump and kick to set it off. The structure of the track follows the same as Kuffdam's original but the build up melody has a fluttering echo on it and there's a real ripping bass groove kicking off under all that. That leads into the first break and onto an uplifting breakdown. The backing chords build up the atmosphere and the vocal echo’s away after it comes in which creates a great vibe in the breakdown. Just when you think its all coming to head it breaks again and the real melody starts to build with an aggressive beat build up. It's then that the real meat of the track slams in with the bright riff ripping through and chunky bass chord dug into the background. Greg's mix here is very uplifting and springs a nice surprise when it gets going.

Moving onto a totally different style of track its the Starkillers & Austin Leeds checking in with a very progressive house offering with sprinklings of electro tech for good measure. It's not progressive as it its ten minutes of the same dull beat that makes you loose interest after thirty seconds, its progressive in the way it builds up and in parts its a little tribal. There is not as much use of the vocal in here with the main riff being very bright and breezy. This one is more for the house heads out there.

The vital signs are good for this with 'Burning Up' suggesting the intention for Kuffdam's debut album. What is it suggesting? Great electronic dance music with great feeling build within, that’s what. Those wanting the peak time punch will really dig Greg's remix here, but the original is very good and the Starkillers & Austin Leeds mix brings a bit of variety. We shall look forward to the album as its looking very promising.
