1) Hybrid Harm (Van Eyden Dub)
A rolling bass meets an acid line as things are kicked off. This energy and pizazz are countered by soft chords and the dusting of a few piano notes making this track intriguing as to where it's going to end up. The breakdown doesn't give much away in this dub from Van Eyden. Atmospheric pads lead the way for some layers of thick and heavy synth chords and this in turn allows calmness to resume before the bass and acid line return to let you know that things are destined to be energetically pushed out until the end. An off-beat snare and distinct percussion add a techy edge to this track which gear it towards tougher sets perhaps.
2) Hybrid Harm (Talla Mix)
Talla's mix of 'Hybrid Harm' feels quicker and more spritely than its counterpart. The buzzing bassline also reminds me of ABove & Beyond's 'Home' but that's all. The soft chords remain in place but you soon hear the addition of a new melody. It's strong in nature and really attacks the track. When combined with a rather unexpected chord progression after the breakdown, you can see how it all works together. The piano notes come in to add a welcome sliver of smoothness to this overall rugged and fierce sounding track. Whilst more melodic, there's still heaps of techy essence in this one - great stuff!
Conclusion:
An interesting result to this collaboration between these 3 big names which shouldn't be passed up.
