Cliff Coenraad makes another appreance on Intuition Recordings with a couple more techy offerings...

:: Cliff Coenraad - Manjula / The Hazzolator
:: Intuition Recordings
:: INTU913

A) Manjula

'Manjula' demonstrates an immediate strength with crispy percussion, a big booming beat and a proper fat bassline which rolls along with an effortless rhythm. Eerie vocals are used to coax in the feeling of melody and add some atmosphere. Out of the first initial break, a great little synth part emerges. It plays a rhythmic line of stabbed and stuttered chords, adding tremendous balance to the midrange of sound in the production and also just spicing everything up in general. A louder, clearer synth is used later on in a much more defined melodic role. The melody itself is based on rhythmic stabs. There are some decent chord changes to be heard here and this new sound keeps the overall flow and progression dead on target. 'Manjula' has attained the fine balance between tech and trance. It has an infectious quality so make sure you give it a couple of listens before making up your mind!

b) The Hazzolator
This rather oddly named track carries a rather odd sound. To begin with the percussion is snappy, crisp and very well defined. The bass that drops in is thick and dirty - quite 'electro' in style. It carries a groovy rhythm which itself contains a few weird hops and skips. The overall feeling here is a darker, more driving sense and this persists even through the breakdowns which are used for small melodic breaks. There is something about the sound of this production which seems to be quite appealing, something about it feels 'different'. One for more tech die hards I think.

Conclusion:
Another good record from Intuition - not only because of the tunes but because Intuition clearly aren't afraid of putting out something which is a break from the norm. Both tracks are worth checking out, I favour 'Manjula' though, it really does it for me!
