While this time of year is often time to look back over the past twelve months its easy to miss the final flourishes of new releases hitting the shops. One such is an old gem from over a decade ago with new remixes of Solarstone’s epic ‘Solarcoaster’…

While the sound of trance today may be a little different to what it was over a decade ago a timely reminder of some of its greatest records is always welcome. Solarstone put himself on the map in the late 90’s with ‘Seven Cities’ and shortly followed up that epic with another string driven master piece in ‘Solarcoaster’. At the time this record was in all of the biggest trance jocks from Paul van Dyk, Tiesto and Ferry Corsten. I have a feeling it will feature in their digital record boxes once more with two new superb remixes from Markus Schulz and Protoculture.

:: Original Mix (Remastered)
:: Markus Schulz Remix
:: Protoculture Remix

 The original mix should need no reminder of as it is one of the all time classic trance records to grace the scene. It’s been remastered for this remix pack so it should sound better than ever, and it does. The remixes on the other hand should be of intrest with two very established names on duty in Markus Schulz and Protoculture. I would say that this would have been one of the records that got Protoculture into the trance sound in the first place so to be able to put his own stamp on it must have been a great honour. Neither have disappointed with their efforts, the epic melody is still there for all to hear but the percussion and bass tones have been given a modern facelift. The result is as impacting as it was all those years ago when the original came onto the scene with Markus’ remix for me edging it over Protocultures fine interpretation.

Conclusion:
With such an epic base to work with and two very well proven trance producers in their own right there was very little doubt these new remixes would be up to par. They are more than just par, I’d drop Protoculture a birdie and Markus Schulz dropping an eagle with his remix. The original, is still there to remind you how it was over a decade ago.
