© VanditWith his brand new compilation 'GO On Air' just hitting the streets and talk of a second artist album next year it's a good time to catch up with Giuseppe Ottaviani...

Things might be cooling down as the autumn approaches but it’s only just warming up for Giuseppe Ottaviani. His new compilation ‘GO On Air’ is out right now and you can read our review right here on why you really need to check it out. We felt the need to get a bit of insider information on its creation straight from its creator. Welcome back on the interview table Mr Giuseppe Ottaviani.

i:Vibes: How has your summer been Giuseppe. What has been your fondest trance moment this summer?

Giuseppe: Summer has been quite busy with many great shows and the highlight so far has been a show in Italy at Cocoricò Club together with Paul van Dyk. It was great for me to play back in that club since my last time was in 2004. Great vibes and great response from the crowd with a completely packed club. My trance moment? That one for sure!

i:Vibes: It has been more than 2 years since you released your debut album GO. What has been the nicest compliment that you have gotten for your album world wide?

Giuseppe: There’s not a specific one that I can remember but I’m proud to say that I’ve got so many nice comments and a great feedback for the whole album and from people all around the world. Surprisingly the best comments are related to those tracks in the album that you can hardly expect to be appreciated that much. I’m talking about One Day and Angel, both tracks are non-dance tracks, the first one with a more rock feeling and the second one is a chillout track. Really happy about it.

i:Vibes: Let’s talk about your new compilation called Go On Air. The album cover sports you wearing a captain´s uniform. How did this idea come about with the theme of the Pilot Giuseppe Ottaviani?

Giuseppe: Oh well, we just played around my name and while GO stands for Giuseppe Ottaviani, the ON AIR is obviously related to a radio, but also, since I spend so much time on a plane and I tend to mix my radio shows “on air” we came out with the idea of having a party on the plane and the DJ would be the captain of the flight. Then, the idea of the photo shooting with the captain costume and the flight attendants which was really funny and the result is quite nice.

i:Vibes: What was your goal behind making this compilation Go On Air? What kind of musical journey do you want the listeners to achieve?

Giuseppe: This compilation it’s a wide range of music that starts from a more slow bpm progressive style to a really uplifting trance and I have included both , instrumental and vocal tracks. Since I didn’t want to limit myself to just mixing tunes together I worked hard to make this compilation as much exclusive as possible. I made lots of remixes and reworks plus two brand new tracks exclusively made for the compilation. Everything is mixed with very smooth transitions in order to give a nice and comfortable trip from the start to the end of this “flight”.

i:Vibes: How difficult was it making Go On Air? How many tracks did you have to choose from and what is unique about this track selection?

Giuseppe: It was a pretty hard job selecting tunes as I’ve got so many good tracks to use but I couldn’t use all of them. Then the next step was to remix or rework my favorite ones in order to give exclusivity to the compilation, something unique, something that people can’t find anywhere else. Moreover I wanted to include two new tracks from myself, one is the title track of the compilation and it’s obviously called Go On Air and the other one is called Just for You featuring the great voice of Linnea Schossow.

i:Vibes: You start the compilation with the track Andrea Mazza & Max Denoise - State Of Soul (GO‘s Violin Remix). Where would be the prefect place to listen to this in Rome?

Giuseppe: Not really in Rome, I actually see my self listening to this track while sitting on a beach looking at the sunset. The perfect place for those violins

i:Vibes: On your remix . Chris Schweizer - 343 (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix) one does hear the Giuseppe Ottaviani sound, but you do bring that techy element into the track. How difficult was it getting this track perfect to your liking

Giuseppe: Well as you noticed that’s not my typical sound at all but music is evolving and I’m evolving too so it was easy to find a way where you feel the GO sound in it but in a very techy way that you couldn’t expect from me. And this is what I like now, having people surprised about something new but at the same time they can recognize who’s behind the remix as I always use a little bit of my typical sounds and the result is great, or at least I like it a lot .

i:Vibes: You added the very proggy/uplifting Mike Koglin vs Genix - Helion to your compilation. What makes this track so appealing to you?

Giuseppe: That’s part of my radio show sound which is not only uplifting trance but I tend to play even more progressive and techy stuff and Helion was a verygood one. I mainly love the melody in the break down but I also really like the catchy bassline they used, you know this is something different from what I usually play and as I said before I like to bring some freshness to my style

i:Vibes: On Graeme Pollock - Omni (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix), you gave a techy track the Giuseppe Ottaviani sound. What did you like most about this track that you chose to remix it?

Giuseppe: In this case I totally fell in love with the melody riff and since the original mix doesn’t bring the melody after the break down I wanted to make a remix to give a typical GO feeling to it with higher bpm and a more uplifting sound. Omni is one of my favorite tracks of the compilation.

i:Vibes: I love your remix for Aly & Fila Rosaires. You created a very breathtaking atmosphere in the break. Do you get goose bumps when listening to this creation?

Giuseppe: I get goose bumps everytime I listen to something that I really like but what actually gives me goose bumps it’s not always the track itself but most of the times it’s when I imagine this track to be played live and seeing people jumping and loving it, which is the goal that I’m always looking for when making music.

i:Vibes: What was your inspiration behind the title track Go On Air? It seems like the title is missing the Go On Air Ottaviani as new airline?

Giuseppe: Easy, the title comes from my radio show called Go On Air which goes on air every third Friday of the month on afterhours.fm. And regarding the airline, since GO Airlines already exists (it’s an Indian airline) then I would go for VANDIT Airlines which sounds cool anyway!

i:Vibes: You have worked with some vocalists in the past. What was special working with Linnea Schössow on Just For You?

Giuseppe: I really like Linnea’s voice and I also had the chance to meet her in Hungary few weeks ago. Just for You was a real quick collaboration that we made through internet file sharing. I made the music and she made the vocals and we simply put all the elements together for the result that you know. Unfortunately there was no time for her to fly over to my studio and work together as I did with Faith in the past. But we will definitely have a track together in my next artist album so watch out for it.

i:Vibes: On the Paul Webster - Circus (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix), you leave a banging remix. Did you have an idea before you set making the remix that it would have such an energetic break?

Giuseppe: Sometime you exactly know how a remix will be at the end and some time you have no idea until you start it. That was the case of Circus. I was just playing around with sounds from my Virus keyboard till I’ve found out something interesting. I have applied that sound to the Circus main melody and the rest was coming out almost automatically. I mean starting from the pattern I’ve found for the melody and the kind of sound I used, then the rest was kind of a natural thing. Banging? Yes it is!

i:Vibes: What is the major difference with a Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix and a Rework which is evident with Italian Mafia DJ feat. Anthya - Dream?

Giuseppe: When I remix something I always start the track from scratch using the sounds from my keyboards and making it sounding 100% GO. When reworking something I only ask for the audio stems and I re-mix the track, cutting off sounds and adding something new, changing the arrangement and the sequence but still using the original sounds. It’s an artistic work to something already done from the original artist and I try to make it as much close to my taste as possible but not adding my own sounds. This is more or less what I did for Dream.

i:Vibes: Do you feel more pressure making a remix for the #1 DJ of the world Armin van Buuren Take Me Where I Wanna Go (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix)

Giuseppe: No, I can’t work under pressure at all, whatever I do it’s just because I love it. Obviously I feel a kind of big responsibility when making a remix for such a big artist but still if I get the feeling and I like the track then it’s easy. For me it’s all related to the music more than the name of its producer and I always try to do my best for anyone, but I can’t hide that I’m totally proud and honored to have had the chance of remixing Armin

i:Vibes: What do you want the listeners to remember most from the compilation Go On Air?

Giuseppe: The cover? Hahaha, well I think it will be easy to remember J No seriously, I would like to see people having fun while listening to the entire mix and not picking up tracks independently. I wanted this compilation to be something as just one big song that you have to listen from the beginning to the end, that’s why you see there are few tracks which are only 1:30 minutes long. There is a reason behind that and it’s not because I didn’t like that track but just because I wanted to use the best part of each track and I was able to put 20 tracks all together in a 77 minutes mix

i:Vibes: You have set work on your second album. What can we expect from this album sound wise?

Giuseppe: I can’t tell you yet because I only have one track done at the moment. I will start on it as soon as possible and there will definitely be some change sound wise but as I said before I will bring my style and the sound that represents me the most into the new era. For right now I have lots of demos and ideas, just need time to work on it and so far I’ve been too busy, but now that the compilation is out I can focus on my new productions. But first of all let me have a little summer holiday, I really need to relax a little bit.
