The trance scene has seem a lot of new fresh faces on the market over the past year and one worthy of mention because of his superb releases is a Chris Metcalfe. He breaks cover again on Subculture for his brand new euphoric ripper 'Cala Bassa'...

Since the launch of John O'Callaghan's brand new label 'Subculture' during the beginning of 2010 it has hosting some truly stellar tracks. Once such release was from Chris Metcalfe with 'Outback' which was the second release on the label from an artist who John rates very highly. It's no surprise as his production style slips into his sets with ease. The subtle mixture of thumping beats and uplifting melodies is a mix Chris has fine tuned with each release unleashing a new hook line that's not to be missed. Gathering by the big plays his new release on Subculture has been getting 'Cala Bassa' will not be one you will miss. The full release gets a few mixes put in for good measure to add a few variations on an extremely well produced original.

:: Original Mix
:: Wezz Devall Mix
:: A.R.D.I. Mix

It's true to say Chris is getting better with each release as his Original Mix here will demonstrate to you. It's uplifting trance with a subtle vocal touch that packs quite a punch. Things start off pretty hot with a deep pulsing kick drum and rolling bass line. It's the detail in the lead up with edgy string patterns, a little reminiscent of those used in old Paul van Dyk tracks, giving it an current blend on an old formula. The vocal sweeps in early filtered through a gorgeous echo. It's when the first break drops you get taken into a pure euphoric melody driven by these irresistible staggered strings. The atmosphere and open air feel to the melody with tone changes right on the money give this piece of trance by Mr Metcalfe serious appeal!

The remixes take things down two different journeys. We all know what a cracking producer A.R.D.I is with a soft, delicate touch to his uplifting sound that's put into this remix here superbly. It's not as hard edged as the original and slightly more brushed down with delicate sweeping synths and echo drench fade offs. The melody is still very euphoric and seems to add a little emotion to the track. Topping it off with a piano melody and ever building main melody gives this remix just as an euphoric edge than the original had. On the other side of the coin you have Wezz Devall's remix which kicks out the deep bass. This mix is loud and right in your face tearing things up with a tough ridget bass line sending off a hint of electro house about it. The melody is pumped up to and for me maybe not dropping the original's uplifting vibe off as well. It's a solid mix for something different but the trance heads will head for Chris's and A.R.D.I's mix for the euphoria here.

Conclusion:
The signs of things to come a year ago were very good and here's the proof with a superb new bomb ready to explode on dance floors all over the globe. It already has, John O'Calaghan's been giving this a road test at Amensia in Ibiza in recent weeks with very welcome results from the club goers. Head for the original if you like it banging but for a slightly softer touch check out A.R.D.I's remix.
