You won't know the name but you will know the man behind it, Icone is back under a new alias 'Anteca' with ‘Sydney’. An uplifting piece of peak time trance dynamite, we drop a light to it to see if it goes off...

Icone used to be somewhat of a trance underground icon back in the early parts of the last decade. I remember his very early works under his own name and ‘The Lightworks’ when he used to spin his tracks away free to the trance community. His reputation soon got round and since 2004 when his got signed to his very first release he’s become a well established trance name. He is for me though, still with the underground edge but with a production talent that has blossomed over the years. He’s been very quiet on the release front this year but he’s back with a new project on Mondo Recordings. Anteca is the name and uplifting trance with a touch of Balearic is the game with ‘Sydney’. Back up with a few remixes from upcoming trance duo Ost & Mayer this is one very hot new release.

:: Original Mix
:: Ost & Meyer Remix
:: Ost & Meyer Summer Mix

The style of sound Icone has reminds me very much of Airbase a few years back. The Original Mix is the first point of call to check out and I'm sure you won't be dissapointed with it. Icone said he wanted to put a touch of the balearic into this new track and by the sounds in here he's done that. This is no chilled out affair though as the beast is strong and percussion crisp and flowing. Lot's of energy in the build up here. The balearic feel is all in the breakdown and main melody which creeps in on the opening lead up to the break. The breakdown is a beauty, drops into almost silence for a second before sweeping undertones take hold and the melody starts to play out getting stronger as the sounds from the distance sweep in and out. With one punch of a beat and a short wait for the track to kick back in the melody goes into full flow. It’s a combination of uplifting elements with an emotional added extra flipping what comes across as a dreamy mood to the track.

The remixes here come from Ukranian duo Ost & Meyer who put two slightly different twists with a straight remix and one they dub the ‘Summer Mix’. Although not to dissimilar the subtle differences are there to see. Their remix keeps the sound of the melody from the original but wraps this around a beat that’s got a crisp punch to it and a deeply grinding bass line. The lead they put in here is bright with sweetly minced in piano keys that come into life on the main breakdown. They also drop a vocal in here and use the harmonic of that to add as a tasty hook on the main break to deliver the uplifting main melody. The changes made to the ‘Summer’ mix are quite nice but it’s the same beat pattern, lead and percussion on the lead. What they have done with this mix is drop a very well worked effect on the melody; it works for me giving the melody a real boost and big room sound that is sure to set the speakers alight. Some may just like the organic nature of the straight remix but with some added FX to it the summer rendition might just set things off for some a bit more.

Conclusion:
It's a welcome return from Icone with a delicious piece of trance done no harm by the Ukrane pair of Ost & Meyer. One of the best from the Mondo label for a few release in my opinion as Icone shows us he’s lost none of his talent for delivering such an impacting melody.
