The latest beats from VANDIT this week is an essential double EP from Gary Proud who gets the thumbs up from Paul van Dyk for two suitably banging trance records...

I had to double check but this will only be the third single release from Gary Proud and his second on Paul van Dyk's VANDIT label. He's a well tried and tested DJ having done a good stint with Goodgreef capturing the attention of the clubbing scene in the north west of England where he's from. It wasn’t long after that other people started to take notice of Gary and since 2008 he's been banging the beats along side the likes of Matt Hardwick, Scott Bond, John Askew, Greg Downey, Sean Tyas, Menno De Jong, John O'Callaghan and Jon O'Bir. His style is very energetic with his sets touching up the 140BPM mark quite frequently. His production skills for this taste for the banging stuff are coming on leaps and bounds if you check out a few of his remixes he’s churned out over the past few years. On a solo production line he’s had two previous singles to speak off, the first being the thumping ‘Underdog’ on Reset and his last release on VANDIT ‘The Republic’. We all know Paul van Dyk likes the banging stuff and its no surprise he signed Gary to VANDIT to deliver the goods. He’s delivered two tracks here that will wake you up and rattle the ear drums up into a fury.

:: Invincible
:: Supernatural

When it comes to pumping trance music at the higher end of the BPM range there is an abundance of new names coming on the scene in recent years providing it. Gary is just one new name on the production front raising the temperature and delivers two very driving and uplifting pieces of trance with this release. The first of which comes in the form of Invincible which sets it intentions right from the start dropping an up tempo and a slamming beat. Add into the mix a buzzing bass riff and crisp and clean kicks giving the tune a true punch to it. Drop the beat for just a slight moment on the first build and in comes the lead chord, bright and inviting building up the layers behind it to erupt into a slightly euphoric main melody. The main melody is a real treat, full of atmosphere and substance with subtle tone and level changes to give you such uplift. You will have your fist pumping right on the first bar the melody kicks in after the break with this.

Supernatural takes things down a slightly different path. The whole sound in here has a very Guiseppe Ottaviani feel about it with the leading bars stuttering and the main beat having a sticky kick to it. He may have taken inspiration from the Italian’s style of sound but this track is no carbon copy, it’s a Gary Proud special. The leading acid riffs inject this one with an energetic pace and come to a fading climax as he unloads a super uplifting string with sweeping rear pads and a nice echo effect giving depth. This is one polish and buffed up trance track with an irresistible energy attached. The melody is a peak time set bomb just ready to be set off and one you will be happy to have blast right in front of you.

Conclusion:
He’s made his name on the DJ circuit and is now starting to get noticed on the production scene and with superb records like these it’s little surprise VANDIT want to push him to greater things. Those who like their trance banging and full of energy will love a bit of this! I certainly do and so far have not heard a record from Gary that’s not had the thumbs up. Play it loud…the new EP from Gary Proud!
