© Manuel Le Sauxi:Vibes had a chance to speak with long time and well known DJ/producer Manuel le Saux...

Manuel Le Saux Visits the Technoclub

Manuel Le Saux is today one of the most wanted DJs in Europe! Manuel has been DJing since 1989 and played at a lot of parties and clubs like Palladium, Red Zone, Area 51, Exogroove, Hollywood and Cyborg and has become one of the most popular DJs of the nation. Manuel is resident (since 2003) at the Italian trance event Trance Gate. At the beginning of the new millennium he started producing once more and from 2006 to the present he is still getting tracks signed for many labels like Bonzai, Flux Delux, Eve Records, Discover, ASOT, Alter Ego and Diverted, receiving support from many well known top DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Tiesto, John Askew, Aly & Fila, Sean Tyas, John O’Callaghan and many more… Manuel Le Saux is also one of the resident DJs on ETN.FM and Afterhours.FM where he has weekly radio shows called Top Twenty Tunes and Extrema, which are very appreciated by the listeners and are broadcasted in several countries

Manuel is currently producing, remixing and playing gigs. In 2008 he achieved a lot of success thanks to the support of his fans and successful big trance DJs. He has been asked to perform for some of the biggest trance events in Europe: ID&T Tomorrowland (Belgium 2007), EnTrance (Poland 2008), Luminosity Trance Energy (Netherlands 2008), Mind (Czech Republic 2008), Illusion (Belgium 2008), Digital Society (UK 2008), Kraks (Spain 2008) and Black Horn (Sweden 2008). On TranceAddict Top 250 2008, Manuel’s position is currently #40! On May 15th, he also made his Technoclub debut in the Technoclub in Frankfurt, Germany.

i:Vibes: Manuel thanks for taking some time to speak to www.technoclub.tc and www.ivibes.nu. It seems like it has been a long winter. Spring is emerging and summer just around the corner. What are you looking forward to the most this summer in terms of touring?

Manuel le Saux: Hello everybody, it’s my pleasure to share this interview with you all!!
Yeah my winter season was full in terms of gigs. I didn’t expect to be requested and it seems like summer I will be busy as well and I am so happy about it, I am already booked for Luminosity Summer party in Holland and finally I will have the opportunity to play outside Europe but I can’t say more for the moment.

i:Vibes: Where in Italy do you come from and what was your childhood like?

Manuel le Saux: I live in Rome where I was born 33 years ago. I’ve spent my childhood with music, turntables and computers; a bit different than many children, maybe it’s cause of this that I had my first live set when I was 15 years old.

i:Vibes: Italy is not known for breeding many trance acts, but how did you get involved with electronic music?

Manuel le Saux: Well lately the trance scene is becoming bigger in Italy and I am quite happy about that cause the number 1 trance party here is Trance Gate where I am still the resident DJ.

i:Vibes: Was there some experience you had where you knew that you wanted to be involved with music as a job?

Manuel le Saux: To be honest music isn’t my real job, I am a biologist. When I was young I thought more than once that music had to be my job, but when you grow up you can understand that it is not easy so I have decided to finish my studies first.

i:Vibes: Who were your musical inspirations while you were growing up? Why did these acts inspire you?

Manuel le Saux: I get inspiration from everything that happens around me. I love good music and I listen to all kinds of music.

i:Vibes: Did acts like FPI Project or Age of Love inspire you? I believe that they are from Italy...?

Manuel le Saux: Well FPI project made dance music so not really my style. Age Of Love made one of the best anthems, and I have played that track for ages.

i:Vibes: Was it difficult developing as a DJ and getting known in Italy?

Manuel le Saux: In the nineties, it was hard because you had to play in the biggest clubs. I was lucky, because I have been resident in one of the best clubs in Italy called Palladium in Rome and because of that I had the opportunity to play all around Italy as guest. Now it is a bit easier just because with the internet you have more visibility than before and if you work hard and well you can get great results.

i:Vibes: You have a very uplifting sound. ‘Waterfall’ is an incredible track. Was this a difficult track to produce? What was the hardest thing that you had to do to get that track prefect?

Manuel le Saux: I made this track just when I was back from my holiday in Ibiza, so I was totally relaxed and inspired. I think that was the reason of the (totally unexpected!) good result.

i:Vibes: What releases can we await from you in the next months?

Manuel le Saux: In January I only worked in the studio and all my new tracks/remixes will be out very soon. The new one on Bonzai called ‘Dissidia’ should be out in the next few weeks.

i:Vibes: Are your DJ/producing sounds similar or do they differ?

Manuel le Saux: Yes, I play the same style, even though I play some progressive when I have the chance.

i:Vibes: What is the most important thing for you as a DJ?

Manuel le Saux: Showing respect to every single person who supports you!!! Like talking with people at the parties, answering emails and questions etc.

i:Vibes: How would you describe the Manuel Le Saux DJ sound of 2009?

Manuel le Saux: Better than 2008 and worse than 2010!

i:Vibes: Is Le Saux your real name or is that a artist name? Does it have a particular meaning?

Manuel le Saux: Everybody asks me that question! :-D. No, Le Saux isn’t my real name, it doesn’t have a particular meaning. In 1996 I had to change my DJ name and I went for Le Saux, maybe the wrong decision because you cant understand how hard it is to spell it right! :-D

i:Vibes: Soon you will visit the legendary Techno Club. How excited are you and what can we expect from your gig?

Manuel le Saux: A lot! I am really looking forward to this party because I know this is a legendary party. I have spoken with my friend Giuseppe Ottaviani last week and he told me that I will love that club!!

i:Vibes: What comes to mind when you hear the word Technoclub and Talla 2XLC?

Manuel le Saux: Both are legendary.

i:Vibes: How important has Talla 2XLC been for electronic music in the last 30 years?

Manuel le Saux: Very important, just the fact he played so many times in the biggest party/festival in the world means that he made a lot for the electronic music.

i:Vibes: How would a Talla 2XLC/Le Saux production sound like?

Manuel le Saux: I don’t know, we should try to know the result! ;-)

i:Vibes: You have played all over the world. Where would you like to play where you haven’t been too?

Manuel le Saux: I would love to play in Japan because I love that country for many reasons, not only for the music. The list is so long...

i:Vibes: You are a resident at Trance Gate. How would you compare this club to the big clubs around the world? What makes Trance Gate so special?

Manuel le Saux: I can’t compare Trance Gate with other biggest club in the world, just because Trance Gate isn’t big at all :-), but yes it’s really special and it is like that just because of the people. They are really amazing.

i:Vibes: You recently played at the White Party in Sheffield with DJs like Judge Jules, Simon Patterson and Menno de Jong. How intense are the ravers in the UK in comparison to other countries?

Manuel le Saux: Very intense. They really know how to party especially in trance events!

i:Vibes: Giuseppe Ottaviani is becoming an Italian Trance God. Could he give Italy more of a face in the European Trance map in the next years with his continued success as an artist?

Manuel le Saux: Giuseppe is already a trance god and a fantastic friend.

i:Vibes: What is your impression of the German Dance scene? This is where Techno was born in the early 90s. Were you a German Techno fan at the beginning?

Manuel le Saux: Well I have played in Germany only once in 2004 if I am not wrong, I was quite happy with the people there. I liked techno in the past, but I have never been a big fan of that genre, always liked melodic stuff.

i:Vibes: With what artist would you like to be locked away with for 24 hours in the studio?

Manuel le Saux: I would say many names, but I think will go for Giuseppe just because he lives near me and we both are Italian and we can understand each other easily because as you see my English isn’t that perfect and when I have collaborated with non-Iitalian artistes, it was hard, hard, hard :-D, even if the result was quite good!

i:Vibes: What are your five all time favourite tracks?

Manuel le Saux: I have so many all time favourites that it is hard for me to choose only five!!

i:Vibes: What are your hobbies?

Manuel le Saux: I love playing with my Xbox360 when I have free time and also playing football.

i:Vibes: Thanks Manuel for the chat! See you at Technoclub!

Manuel le Saux: Thanks to you and see you at Technoclub!!!
