© -Jordi of i:Vibes hooked up with busy man John Dahlback for an interview, so read on to check out what he has to say!

John Dahlback was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1985. He moved to a small village outside Stockholm at an early age. Both his mother and father are musicians, and almost everyone else in his family too.

He got into touch with house music through his older cousin, Jesper Dahlback, and then John started to produce the music after that. His first track got released by Pawel Kobak's label, Route 33, and the first12" came on the Chicago-based label Deep4life.
John has since then released records on Joia, Turbo, Morris Audio, Systematic, Giant Wheel, Dessous and Brique Rouge among others.

Soon his album 'Man From The Fall' (on Systematic Recordings) will hit the shops!

The interview…

i:Vibes: So John, with all those releases in different sounds, how would you describe your own style?

A: It's very hard to describe my style since I'm into a lot of different styles. But overall I like melodies, both the ones which are "hidden" in a track and the ones which are "seen". I'm also in to heavy basslines.

i:Vibes: Do you produce full-time or do you still study or work next to it?

A: I produce full-time, 24/7. I graduated last year but after that I started to spend more and more time in the studio because I love it so much. I have some thoughts about going to the university next year but that's a later issue.

i:Vibes: With so many releases and remixes coming out under the John Dahlback name, aren't you scared that people will 'miss' some releases?

A: Not really, it's not like they disappear after a while. Nowadays, with so many online shops where most people are buying the records, they get informed of all new releases so I'm not really scared of that.

i:Vibes: Is there really a scene in Sweden that accepts Electro-House?

A: Not the kind of scene you can imagine with all these great producers and DJ's. There is a scene, but a very small one.

i:Vibes: How do your close friends in Sweden react to your music?

A: I hope they like it, hehe! Almost every one of my friends are into house music so they appreciate it.

i:Vibes: You're at a very early age compared with other older producers that are at the same level, has that ever worked against you?

A: I hope other producers don't see me as a threat to them. I doubt that people will buy my records because of my age, or that people buy records produced by older guys. Of course, everyone seems to be so amazed by my age but I don't quite see it anymore.

i:Vibes: Let's talk about your album, I listened to it before this interview and I must say it was quite deep, but accessible at the same time, was this also a goal for you?

A: Of course, music that is accessible for both the listening people as well as the clubbers builds the ultimate album. I think I've succeeded in doing that - you'll get both listening and club tunes when you buy it. And there’s so much more thought put behind the tracks so the album sounds like an "album" more than something just "put together".

i:Vibes: The title of the album is 'Man From The Fall', what is the story behind this title?

A: You can create your own ideas about the title because it has so many different answers. Basically I thought about my birthday which is in the fall - October. But it could also mean; "this is how far I've come, this is where I stand now" etc...

i:Vibes: Is there a track on the album that is your favourite?

A: Not really, I'm proud of the whole album, for me it's a timeline from where I started producing and where I am now so all the tracks mean a lot to me.

i:Vibes: Are there any other producers that inspire you?

A: I get a lot of inspiration from Dominik Eulberg, Nathan Fake and the other "pure sounds but still dirty" producers. They are really taking house music to the next level. It's so wrong that it's right!

i:Vibes: Is there any act you really wish to remix for an official release and if yes; why this act?

A: I would like to remix a release from James Holden, Nathan Fake or Dominik Eulberg. They are my favourite producers right now, they’ve got so many awesome releases on their shoulders so it would be an honour to do a remix for them.

i:Vibes would like to thank John for his time and wishes him many more successes in the future!
