Veteran producer The Freak makes a re-appearance onto the 2Play imprint with more tough and dark styled trance. Read on to find out about his latest production, 'Bandhar'...
Following on from his last release - the rather successful 'Rising Angel', he Freak has gone on to produce another slice of dark, tough and techy trance. 'Bandhar' comes in the form of an Original Mix and a Dark Techno Mix and will be released soon in July.

A) Original Mix
This mix begins with a rough sounding kick and a percussive loop reminiscent of 'Attack!' by Mauro Alpha, released a few years back. The beat and percussion progress and drive forward until things fade into a quiet breakdown. A coarsely edged synth rises from the background into a loud drone until it breaks away into an ominous stabbing rhythmic melody. From here, the track strives onwards, progressing the percussion in 3 sections, adding in new elements into each one. Another breakdown and synth build up is used to initiate another percussive progression, giving the track a very techy feel overall. Although simplistic and minimal, good use of sound and creation of atmosphere make this a solid piece of dark tech trance.
AA) Dark Techno Mix
This mix begins with a quiet and jittery percussive section which soon breaks out into a proper kick driven beat. Soon, a very deep rumbling bass is brought in, along with a gruff synth growling away in the background. These really give the track a really gutsy feel. The break is silent but for a synth waking up to a severe sounding repeating stabbed melody. The bassline and bass synth boom back into action providing drive and force. The track basically continues like this, as any other techno would - relying on the power and force created by the bass. Strong and gutsy with a retro sounding synth to boot.
Conclusion:
'Bandhar' is an interesting track. Both mixes are kept simple and minimal yet both achieve a strong, dark and techy feeling due to the well-made instruments and how they are used. Very good for techno or dark and hard trance sets alike!
