It's time for another release on Liquid Recordings' special White imprint. This one sees 3 mixes of a track from Shocksteady which have gained the support from the likes of Jon O'Bir, Blank & Jones, Mark Norman, Bart Claessen, Jochen Miller, and The Freak among many others...

A: Take A Ride (Shocksteady's Brazilian Wax Remix)

As the title suggests, this one has a carnival-esque sound to it - lots of high end percussion and metal drums give the track a party like atmosphere and effortless drive. A lot of this track is dominated by big, rolling beats which when combined with the 2/4 snare drum makes for a very techno based track. Right there the track could stand on it's own because of its excellent rhythm and sonic strength and if this were a sole techno release then I think it would be left there. However, to make sure this crosses over into the tech-trance arena, Shocksteady have also included a synth element. Simple arrangements of strong, stabbed synths with some slightly more melodic sections every once in a while finishes this track off perfectly with a tech-trance edge.

B1: Take A Ride (Club Mix)
The Club Mix is, by nature, a much lighter sounding track. The kick isn't as dominating and the bassline is a springy compliment to the percussion. The same synths provide a much more upbeat interpretation of the stabbed chords and on the whole are much more melodic. Along with the backing chord changes, the synth part leads the track and provides a fairly subtle uplifting feeling to the proceedings.

B2: Take A Ride (Santoro Project Remix)
The Santoro Project Remix on the B2 is a much deeper and darker version of 'Take A Ride'. It has a long and almost tribal intro section of soft beats and shaker driven percussion. It is slowly developed into something led by some sinister stabbing synths which are pretty relentless and simply drive things onwards in a dark and foreboding manner. The middle section sees a change of backing chord to a more positive sounding note and this is a cunning injection of energy which works even more so as slight hints of melody filter through before things switch back to the dark and sinister roots.

Conclusion:
It's always exciting when a WL release comes along because it's such a varied label, anything goes. This time we're hit with a classy trio comprised of dark, sinister progression (Santoro Project), lighter, upbeat trance (Club) and stomping, driving tech trance (Brazilian Wax). Of the 3, I can see the Brazilian Wax Mix doing most of the damage out there with it's big beats and driving rhythm.
