© Taken by Alex DJAn exclusive interview with the hard euphoric trancers of the 21st century, Nu-Nrg, putting i:Vibes as the first website to feature an English interview with Andrea and Guiseppe of Nu Nrg.

Andrea Ribeca & Giuseppe Ottaviani, both in their mid 20s have been in the
music circuit since the early 1990s. They came together in 1999 to form the
now much sought after Nu-Nrg.

i:Vibes It has been a pretty long journey for you guys in terms of the Nu Nrg sound and international recognition from the top DJs and producers such as Paul van Dyk and Rank 1. How has this been for you two and where do you hope to go from here?

Nu Nrg: We came from a small city where it's not really possible to get technical information on musical instruments and products, but that is where we began our first productions, putting all our passion into all that we made, supporting the idea to produce and to play our music at the same time. Slowly but surely we have created our own sound, and have since let out our first true productions like "Take Your Air", which arose as a result of several production, and then there was "Dreamland", which was noticed by Paul Van Dyk who has found our style interesting. To play at the Love Parade has been already been a huge dream for us. In fact, when we were younger, we saw it on tv and saw several reviews of the musical industry revolving around that. Now we continue ahead with the intention to work seriously at our productions.

i:Vibes How would you describe the sound which you put forward? And where do your influences come from?

Nu Nrg: The sound from which we produce is born from the passion that we have within of us, and from the emotions that the people who dance to our pieces transmit to us. Our inspirations come from all the things that encircle us, such as the sea, sun, lakes, and especially from the same country in which we live, Italy, a nation where there are so many different influences and experiences to reflect from.

i:Vibes "Dreamland" was definitely one of the biggest tracks of 2001, having been signed onto Paul van Dyk's Vandit label. Are there plans to release further on Vandit? And what did you think of the Rank 1 remix of Dreamland?

Nu Nrg: Yes, it was great to have a track put out on Vandit, and obviously we hope that there will be future plans for more of our material put out on the label. With regard to the remix by Rank 1, it was great, because the fact that having such great producers worked on our track is a superb acknowledgment for our work, and this remix has increased had positive influence on the exposure to our track.

i:Vibes Recently, we have seen the remix releases of "Sunblind" and "Angelic Touchdown" on EXTRA WILD, which some have denoted as 2 of the best remixes in the euphoric trance genre, this year. How do you feel about these remixes and what more in terms of remixes are coming?

Nu Nrg: These two remixes have a lot of additions than the originals which they came from, and this has been reflected positively from the emails and feedback that we have gotten about it. Obviously for our remix, we have put a lot of effort into it and we have noticed that our musical styles are in constant change. Remixes are intended to add and change from the original track, but too many times, a good idea is not fully taken advantage of, and moreover, in as much as people having different tastes, it is well that there are various versions to suit different tastes.

i:Vibes How about in terms of your own productions? or an Artist album perhaps?

Nu Nrg: For us, it seems much too soon for an album at the moment, and we would want to still improve our production talents and qualities, but hoping to let out an album in the future. There are still many people with alot more talent than we do and we have still much to learn. From what we are producing now we hope to have a good response on our tracks from the industry and from the listeners to develop our music even better than before!

i:Vibes What have been your favourite own productions in the past, and what favourite DJs / Tracks have you had in your minds in recent months?

Nu Nrg: There are quite a few, but for example:

Age of love - Age of Love (Jam & Spoon, Paul van Dyk Remixes)
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings
System F - Out of the Blue
and more recently, Paul van Dyk's "Vega"

Nu Nrg: Obviously Paul van Dyk has been our point of reference, and moreover, he has allowed us to realize the dream to play at the Loveparade. There have been many tracks in recent months, such as Marinero (Vocal Mix), of which there are superb vocals, and therefore we have decided to focus our likes on those kind of tracks.

i:Vibes Do you think that your Hi-nrg trance sound will remain for 2002 and 2003, or will it digress to something different?

Nu Nrg: We will continue to work on our Hi-Nrg Trance style adding variations and also vocals, because we are sure that energy and emotions that are transmitted in this style of music come across much more difficultly than you would find in other musical styles, and we want to focus on that.

i:Vibes In terms of DJing, you guys have done very little DJ work outside of
Italy and Germany, with the exception of Loveparade where you played at the Vandit Truck and the Orgasmatron sets. Are there plans to diversify to the rest of Europe or North America or even Asia? Or do you think that they aren't compatible with your hi-nrg sound?

Nu Nrg: As far as around the world is concerned, we are organizing events through Vandit, and obviously our presence at the Love Parade has yieled some exposure and opinions and already there have been a few demands from all the world for a few sets by us, which is good.

i:Vibes Who are your favorite artists?

Nu Nrg: There are quite a few, but in our minds Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Mauro Picotto, Francesco Zappalà, Francesco Farfa are all top notch!

i:Vibes Finally, A viewpoint we ask all industry players, is whether or not you believe that mp3s are a positive thing or not? and what views do you have of them?

Nu Nrg: It can be a positive thing as well, but we do not accept it if it is used in piracy. For example, we have demos on our website in mp3 format, but our moral principles are contrary to illegal duplications and the pirating which comes with trading of mp3s and such.

Thanks guys!

i:Vibes thanks Markus, Andrea and Guiseppe for this opportunity.
