© Black Hole Recordings Moving on from the relative chill of his winter-magnificent ‘Etherflow’ LP, Johan Gielen temporarily detaches from the Airscape mothership, to flip the stylistic polarity and put out something as contrasting as they come.

Ready For The Jump !?

Talking about ‘Ready For The Jumps origins, Johan says: “I was digging through old vinyl crates and came across this raw, hypnotic record from 1992, which instantly took me back. Yet, there was a hook in there that just felt timeless, so I built around it, pushing it into a much heavier, rawer and more modern club sound.

Johan Gielen

Ready For The Jump’ became about bridging eras—taking something in danger of finally being forgotten and giving it new energy for today’s dancefloors. It’s also served as reminder to myself that I’m not limited to one lane; this track goes beyond that and into something bigger. I’ve been playing it for six months now and every time that sample hits, you can feel as well as see the reaction in a club. People might not know why, but they feel it, and that’s when you know you’ve captured something special!

That sample specifically is a chunky old chunk of the stone-cold hardcore classic
‘Total Confusion’ by A Homeboy, A Hippie & A Funky Dred. Casper Pound’s culturally harmonising trio brought their three styles to one boundary-dissolving track, where musical forms and social divisions were being rewritten on the dancefloor.

In his back-to-the-future reimagining, Johan has fully tapped into the original’s chaos theory, to deliver an absolute
unit of a track! The dutchman skimps not on Total Confusion’s whooping Zulu Nation chants and “renegade” shouts. Nor the militant rhymes of Chuck D, or, contrastingly, Roy Ayers’s earthy, soulful and unhurried tones. ‘Ready For The Jump’ reinforces that further with thrashing rave stabs, hardcore riffs and distortion attack, all of which he hot-houses into one, single, immensely pressurised groove.

With one eye on the warehouses and the other on festival season, this May, Johan draws a direct line between ’92 and ’26, for a ragga-rap-rave dancefloor heater. ‘
