© Marco VMarco V was in Sheffield last weekend and i:Vibes caught up with him at Gatecrashers venue 'The Republic' where he was due to play...

The interview took place on Saturday 18th May.

Marco V Interview @ Gatecrasher 18-05-2002

Please click on the above for the real audio interview of Marco V. Unfortunately, the recording is contains a lot of background noise as well as some distortion, and some parts may be inaudible, hence the script (generally correct) has been posted below.

Marco V: This is my first time at gatecrasher for me; I really like it playing in the UK.

Sygnus: Have you been round the UK much previously?

Marco V: Now in the last half year, I’ve been a lot in the UK now, I’m really concentrating on the UK now.

Sygnus: How long have you been DJ’ing for now?

Marco V: I’ve been DJ’ing already, 13 years ago where I started with Disco and Hip hop and I grew out of that style of music.

Sygnus: So how did you make your big break?

Marco V: : With me, I go step by step… I first did mixing championships in Holland and then go to bigger clubs and bigger Venues and Events and making records, it was growing growing growing, I did a lot of remixes and now I started together with Benjamin 2 or 3 years ago where we Started Marco V, a solo project, and bow its huge

Sygnus: How would you describe the style of music, which you produce?

Marco V: : The first thing is always the… it’s always, Kinda music
I don’t care if its Techno or Trance or whatever… just wants a rolling beat, basslines rolling and with something on top of that.

Like Indicator is a totally different song from Simulated and Godd. I try everytime to make something new.

Sygnus: Have you got a favourite production of your own?

Marco V: : No not really. I recently did a remix of Café Del Mar…

Sygnus: What is your most successful production so far?

Marco V: : My most successful production at the moment is GODD, it sells a lot of records

Sygnus: Which was the Innercity theme of 2001, also… you produced ‘In Charge’ which was the Innercity theme for the year before, do you have a theme planned for this year?

Marco V: : there are some speculations around. There are some good ideas

Sygnus: You have recently remixed ‘Café Del Mar’, can you tell us a bit more about that?

Marco V: : Erm… they asked me to do the remix, and I remixed it, lol, and that’s the story

Sygnus: Do you get asked to do a lot of remixes?

Marco V: : Majorly, you won’t believe.. There are so many requests…
Now I did Café Del Mar, Future Sound Of London and..
Three remixes and ive stopped doing them for a while now.

Sygnus: Is there a release date for the ‘Café Del’ Mar’ remix?

Marco V: : Not at the moment but there is some white labels going around.

Sygnus: Last year you worked with Rank1 to produce a track, which never got finished. So what happened there?

Marco V: : They are too busy, we are too busy and now it’s too cheesy to do anything

Sygnus: Would you ever go back then to finish that off at any point?

Marco V: : Well for sure were going to do a track together, something like Marco V vs. Rank1 or otherwise..

Sygnus: Do you have any other collaboration’s planned for the future?

Marco V: : No not really

Sygnus, Innercity then, that’s a really huge event

Marco V: : It’s Amazing… Its unbelievable, there’s like so many people, you look and you can’t see the end of the crowd

Sygnus: How do the clubs over in Holland compare to the ones over here in the UK?

Marco V: : There is a big difference yea, England still likes trance more, and the people are more excited here still, lots more dancing

Sygnus: How do you see your own personal sound evolving throughout the rest of the year, is there going to be any changes?

Marco V: : Yea a little bit, I want to go back to my Tolerance productions and going on to the melody, maybe that’s because I am a lot in the UK now. I want more melody in my productions; I’m trying to do that but after the summer. I’m concentrating time now on the spinning so I don’t actually get much time in the studio

Sygnus: Any idea what your next release will be?

Marco V: : No, I tried to make something…

Sygnus: While talking about GODD, are the lyrics relevant to anything? Or have any meaning? What inspired them?

Marco V: : People just see me as a…

(We joke about Marco been a God)

Marco V: : Benjamin my.. He has an idea with the girl singing..
There was no meaning about, just rolling, vocals rolling

Sygnus: That was the Innercity theme for last year; did they approach you and ask you to create it?

Marco V: : Well ‘In Charge’ they asked me to do, that was very difficult, they didn’t want a trance song, because trance was a little like a dirty word, and the roof has to go off, so we have to make a record, a little of techno and make sure that the roof is going off, and it was very cool to make that. And GODD, we made a song; they said that’s a good tune for Innercity, so it was much easier.

But now this year they are going to ask me again, so it’s difficult again

Sygnus: You have recently released an album over in Holland, is there going to be a UK release?

Marco V: : A lot of labels want to release GODD and generally more labels want to work with Marco V, something more than just the records out.

Sygnus: On the album, there’s a track called ‘Atlanta 02/02/2002’, is the date relevant to anything?

Marco V: : That date I went over to Atlanta to do a gig there, and they caught me at the airport because I didn’t have a working licence. They put me in jail, took fingerprints and everything and then put me back on the plane and told me I couldn’t come back in the US for ten years, so we are busy now with lawyers trying to resolve that. I didn’t know I needed a working permit

Sygnus: So you named the track after that then.

Marco V: : So I came back and was like (roaring noise, lol)

Sygnus: Anything else you would like to add to that at all?

Marco V: : I would like to play now J

Sygnus: Well thanks very much for your time!

_______
Ended.

i:Vibes thanks Marco V for this Interview and Lee from MostwantedPR for helping to arrange it.
