The return of Greg Downey to VANDIT brings him from the digital age to the main label with his brand new EP 'Global Code'. This one has got just a little something about it...

This year looks to be a very promising one for Greg Downey and VANDIT. One of Trance music's new breed of talents and one of the biggest labels in the world have joined up for 'Global Code', which is named after Greg's monthly radio show. His first release on VANDIT was on their digital imprint back in early 2008 and was the second release on the label. This time around he's on the daddy, VANDIT and will have a full 12" outing with this new track powered along by a superb remix from Scott Project. If you were after an uplifting start to the New Year then Greg has providing you with it.

:: Original Mix
:: Club Mix
:: Scott Project Remix

The Original Mix has a striking similarity to the pace of Greg's DJ sets with it setting off at a pounding tempo right from the start. The main beat is strong and hard and has a sharp kick drum and hats feeding off it. Throughout the build up Greg has a bubbling undercutting bass line with bright key chord dropping in on top. The beat cuts out on the intro to slip in a short chord sequence and then feeds in stuttered percussion as the main beat returns. It’s full of energy and deep bursting sweeps that build and cut off into a harmonic break. It’s within that that the main melody drops and what a melody! Stuffed with uplift and very orchestral in tone it fits in around the pounding pace of the track perfectly. It’s got a little hint of Simon Patterson about it with a thunderous beat and in the middle you find a super uplifting melody that pricks the hairs on the back of your neck.

The Club Mix Greg has put in here is very true to the original but with a re-worked introduction that feeds in rolling bass line over the bubbling bass line underneath. The main change he’s done with the club mix is remove the leading chord using that had the keys leading in before the main melody. It’s a slightly more aggressive mix than the original with the overall flow but that uplifting melody remains un touched to give you the same impact.

Scott Project is having a little bit of a re-birth at the moment when it comes to production. I always used to think he would only ever produce 26 tracks with his fetish for naming them after letters. He’s coming back to the boil though and his remix here is a great way to get past simmering for the New Year. He’s sprinkled a dab of tech on this mix with the introduction lead by a buzzing chord that hammers along with the main beat. It’s that buzz that drives the track forward with an undertone that acts like it’s about to take off. The main break comes in with a rumble of drums and the melody starts to build. It’s built up with great effect using backing percussion to drive it along. That build then turns into a synth driven melody backed by a rumbling drum and energy that only Scott Project can create.

Conclusion:
The original mix for me gets the seal of approval but if you’re after something a little bit more tech effected then Scott Project's remix will be right down your street. It's one of best Downey tracks he's produced in my opinion with a main melody that will go down like a house on fire. Uplifting Trance with that added extra spice form Mr Project. Check this one out when it drops on VANDIT records in the next few weeks.
