The second release on Boston-based Airdrop Recordings is Soul Clap's "Die Ente," a quirky little tech-house tune that gets a monstrous remix by one the main members of Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird outfit, Tanner Ross. Read on for the full report!
Soul Clap - Die Ente (Original Mix)
The original mix starts out with a deep and groovy feel, complete with varied percussion, a strong kick, and a symphony of rising synths. The tune gets really deep around the four minute mark, entering into a buildup that is sure to get your attention. The big surprise, however, is when the main acid lead drops several octaves, transforming the tune into something that is surprisingly funky! The breakdown continues to funk things up, with the main acid lead carrying the song until the outro. The original mix is a great combination of deep techno and acid house that retains an awesome, very danceable groove.
Soul Clap - Die Ente (Tanner Ross Remix)
Although the quirky original mix is sure to get people moving on the floor, the pick of the EP is Tanner Ross' excellent, dark, and twisted remix. The funkyness and quirkyness of the original are completely absent from this remix, replaced with haunting, pulsating synths and eerie, reverbed effects that give the track a truly scary feel! The tune builds perfectly, changing pace at the right moments. As the tune builds, an eerie melody emerges that takes center stage during the breakdown. This carries things along nicely until the outro.
Conclusion:
"Die Ente" is a solid release that should have a little something for everyone. The original doesn't take itself too seriously, making it easy to fit into an acid or tech house set. Tanner's remix, on the other hand, is a dark and twisted journey of a tune that should be played late at night. Both Soul Clap and Tanner Ross have done a great job with this EP. Its great to see such quality work putting Boston artists on the map, so support the artists and check this release out today!
