© Daft PunkThe duo of Daft Punk which began all the way back in 1993 has come to end with the announcement of their split today which came in the form of what may well be their last video ever produced…

I’m sure at some point regardless of your particular dance music style you will have heard a Daft Punk tune. The French pair of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo has been working under the Daft Punk alias since 1993. They have released some of the most iconic dance tracks over the past few decades with a few highlights being their ‘Homework’ album and one for me their excellent score of film sequel Tron – The Legacy. It’s surprising when taking a look at their past albums that they have only ever released four studio albums with the last coming in 2013 with ‘Random Access Memories’.

The spilt was announced today with a video from the pair walking side by side in the desert. One slows and comes to a stop while the other walks on. Looking back the one walking off comes back to come face to face with each other. One member turns around while the other sets off a countdown on their back. Walking away while the count gets the zero there is a massive explosion while they get turned into dust. The video finishes with a graphic of their iconic robot helmet and the text 1993-2021.

It came as a bit of a shock and the news ahs lit up every news outlet today with the story being covered on news networks all over the globe. While very sad, looking back the pair have not released a record under Daft Punk since 2016 so is this just the final curtain for the pair as no new music was ever going to come or the birth of a new project. I don’t think there has been an official statement from Thomas or Guy on the split but it has been confirmed by their media representatives.

You can find the link to the video below and if I was you I would get collecting up their past discography as looking around today prices are hitting the roof on some of their rarer albums. If this is the end for Daft Punk then it is a sad day as I’m sure many who had their music taste formed back in the 1990’s have many fond memories of their music
