The brand new single from Hydra, which is a subplot of the Thrillseekers comes in the form of a beautiful trance composition called ‘Amber’. This is one to really enjoy…

It’s only taken the best part of 11 years but the follow up to Affinity is finally here. The Thrillseekers, which is just the one man, Steve Helstrip brought this alias out back in the 2000’s and since Affinity I don’t think he has used the alias for any of his tracks since. I do remember the original track well; it was on a set by Jon O’Bir where I first heard it. Laid back, melodic trance with a melody fit for a king is how I would describe the track to you as. It still sounds as fresh today as it did back then. It’s about time for a new one then and here it is in the form of ‘Amber’ on the very reliable Future sound of Egypt label.

It’s a good thing that the true trance pioneers of the last decade are still keeping true to the sound in this one. The reason I say this as looking at the fundamentals of this new track it would sit in place very well in the new releases section of a trance chart back in the mid 2000’s. Is this not fresh new music then you may ask? Well, it is very fresh but it’s kept within a style of sound that any real trance fan can appreciated and really enjoy. Why try to re-invent the wheel when you can just upgrade the tyre for better performance? This is what this record is all about, the soft tone of the beat, the gorgeous bass line and sweeping swings which take your head off to another place all sound very familiar but with that said, this is taking you on a new journey.

This is just an outstanding record and one of the best from Steve for quite some time and he’s had some good releases in recent months to. It’s great to see Hydra back with a familiar sound but fresh new feeling, which is what does it for me. If we have to wait another ten years for a third release that does not bother me at all, this one will tie you over and some for time to come.

Conclusion:
Such a gorgeous record, sublime melody and pleasure with every chord change. Steve Helstrip knows how to construct a good record and has really done the business with this new Hydra release. Go get it and go play it!
