Silk Music has fast established themselves as one of the best progressive labels on the scene today with some stunning single releases. They present their first album collection this month from the immensely talented Shingo Nakamura...
The musical spark has been within Shingo Nakamura well before he started producing his own music at the tender age of 16. He was first brought to light by me with Silk Textures last year with the gorgeous ‘I’m With You’. It’s easy to see why the label took to his music as it fits in with Silk’s smooth progressive sound bordering on the style of house and trance. One of the early influences for Shingo was a visit to his homeland by James Grant, the progressive A&R director of Anjunadeap. It was his style of music which put him down the path he produces today. It must be said a thanks to James for introducing Shingo to the world of progressive beats and for Silk for giving this immensely gifted Japanese buzz saw a home to present his debut album ‘Sapporo’.

If you're an avid follower of Silk Music you will have already been tasted to a few of the tracks to grace this stunning debut album from Shingo. The opening track and title track for the album ‘Sapporo’ was featured on the Silk Royal showcase compilation mixed by Jacob Henry and Tom Fall back in February this year. It’s safe to say that ‘Sapporo was one of the main highlights of a superb compilation. With its delightful smooth melodies and delicate piano keys it’s just hard to be hooked into the track. Shingo seems to have such a soft touch when it comes to creating a progressive masterpiece, which the opening track in this eight track collection certainly is.
If music were in shades then the blend with Shingo’s music would all merge into what would seem to be the same colour. ‘White Night’ is a blissful progressive piece with an edgy melody and very harmonising bass tones. Highlighting once again how much of a talented musician he is with a series of epic piano keys and subtle tone changes. The music in here is simply irresistible. One melody you should really get your ears around is the leading one within ‘Crystallum’ as Shingo’s put a very juicy effect to it sweeping it in and out as he please to drive the overlapping melody forward. As progressive goes, this is right on the money with delicate breaks and soothing melodies all backed up with some gorgeous percussion.
He has had a few collaborations within this albums creation with ‘Move On’ and ‘Khafre’ having a helping hand of Kazusa and Kyohei Akagawa. His fellow Japanese progressive partners in crime have just the right touch in creating smooth flowing progressive music with deep emotion and powerful energy. Just the piano breakdown in ‘Move On’ is example enough of that, not just one but a double layer that floats you off into another world. It’s not that Shingo needs any help with creating a beautiful record as his three remaining tracks on the album prove right down to the point. ‘Memory of The Sea’ goes a little bit deeper than the rest with a subdued lead building up the progression. The soft but firm beats Shingo’s puts as a back drop just elevate the melodies and shirt strings he puts in to another height. The way he falls into the break and unleashes some of the most relaxing piano keys you will ever hear are a joy to hear.
‘Hadokate’ and ‘Thousands of Sounds’ are two of my personal picks from this collection. The delicate bars leading up to what is a sensational main break in the former just leave your head in a good place. When the break does drop, the small melodies and drops of sound leading back up to the bars take your breath away. The last track ‘Thousands of Sounds’ might be a little misleading by name as I don’t think he used that many in it but the ones he did are used to great effect. This one is rather punchy and seems to a little oriental packing it some awe inspiring atmosphere. Immensely emotional and supremely addictive this track and indeed the whole album will leave you head in a very good place!
Conclusion:
What more can be said about this, nothing you're just going to have to experience it for yourself. His single releases on Silk have been nothing short of exceptional and this collected delivery of beautiful progressive sounds takes things to the next stage. Shingo Nakamura is one Japanese artist that impresses me even more with each release, superb album!
