System 7 New Album - 'Phoenix'

Having immersed themselves heavily in Japanese culture for the last year, System 7 emerge with their new artist album, 'Phoenix'.

Rising on A-Wave at the end of January 2008, 'Phoenix' displays System 7's ceaseless energy and thirst for new sounds and creative avenues and sees them refine their unique musical sound with the latest techno beats and trance sounds. Collaborating with leading production talents such as Germany's Jam El Mar, Eat Static and Son Kite, System 7 create an exhilarating diverse musical soundscape, having also clocked up an amazing 12 Live shows at some of the world's leading dance festivals in 2007.

Launching the 'Phoenix' album from their massive interest in the Phoenix books and images of Osamu Tezuka as well as Manga visuals, System 7 blend and shade their own unique "ambient techno house groove" in spacey electronic style. Opening the new album is 'Hinotori' which cuts an energetic rhythmic swathe powered by System 7's powerful trademark spaced guitar. This recently topped Japan's HMV Singles chart. This is currently ripping up floors across Europe with remixes from Dubfire and Liquid Soul. A collaboration with Slackbaba sees S7 hit a darker, more intense, acid-fluenced note as hotly tipped 'Scramble' cuts a peaktime dancefloor edge that builds and builds. A softer ambient side is unveiled for 'Masato Eternity' as is with another Jam El Mar collaboration in 'Song For The Phoenix'. With Son Kite, S7 tread a dreamy path with 'Chihiro 61298'. 'Makimura', produced with Mito (of Japanese band Clammbon), unlocks an experimental ambient-style groove that sounds both traditional and futuristic. On a rockier, offbeat tip is the minimal electro-charged trancer, ‘Crazy'. Rounding off 'Phoenix' is their collaboration with Eat Static, entitled 'Wolf-Head', a breakbeat-styled banger.

System 7 continue to defy constraints of trends in music, having appeared live at a staggering amount of eclectic festivals this year. Highlights include playing twice at Japan's Nagisa Festival, Tokyo with Derrick May and Joaquin Joe Claussell; another mighty appearance at the Glastonbury Festival West Dance Tent in June with A Guy Called Gerald & Trentemoller; the Main Stage at the Glade Festival with Longrange, Digitalism & Richie Hawtin; as well as Italy's Sonica festival, Harmonia Festival in Spain and Devon's Waveform event with Eat Static & Banco De Gaia.

Doyennes of the International club and party scene, S7 are often found in Ibiza playing in the chilled out scene and partying at the big tech clubs; live at Australia's major festivals and they visit Berlin regularly for inspiration and to visit friends, recently attending the Berghain club for the 25th Anniversary of “E2 E4” by old friend & legend Manual Gottsching, (an event attended by the multifarious dons of the Berlin techno scene).

The workaholic System 7 duo of Steve Hillage (former Planet Gong helmsman) and Miquette Giraudy, collaborated on two tracks with The Orb for their new album 'The Dream' and also produced Rachid Taha's critically acclaimed 'Diwan 2' album. Through their ambient 'Mirror System' offshoot and cover of Jam & Spoon's 'Stella', S7 started working with Jam El Mar this year in Frankfurt, too. Previous collaborations have included the 'Mysterious Traveler' with Detroit techno pioneer, Derrick May; a track with Brian Eno as well as contributing to the still unreleased Danger Global Warming project. http://www.myspace.com/dangerglobalwarming

Most recently S7 have Remixed tracks for Pitch Black, Tripswitch, and the Black Smoke Project (which includes other top remixers like Trentemoller and The Micronauts), and on the downtempo front they also mixed the 'Art of Chill 3' album on Platipus Records. The 'Phoenix' album has already hit the No 3 position in Japan's HMV Albums Chart.

System 7's unique style has gained praise from leading DJs such as Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier and the duo have always stayed true to their basic love of house music, from deep tech-house to trance, S7 were one of the first techno groups to play live sets and have continued to flourish and develop their powerful peaktime live set at many of the major dance events. They will be touring the new 'Phoenix' album from February 2008 onwards and expect lots of summer festival action.
