David West, who has has produced trance for labels such as Anjunadeep, AVA and Solaris, puts out a deep and thoughful effort on the now reformed Captured Music...
:: David West - True Love :: Captured Music :: CAPTURED013
1) True Love (Original Mix) 'True Love' takes a simple approach to building itself up. An easy beat and fairly funky sounding bassline slowly warm the track up during the initial stages. It's when the vocal element is introduced, along with the backing synths, that this piece comes alive. The simple "True Love" vocal is used to good effect - sparingly, and is nicely accented with some sfx. The synths open the track's sound right up, giving a spacious feel. A clean and clear lead instrument plays a simple and clearly defined melody, moving things on from what initially seemed like quite a progressive track. That's what I like about this one - it has found a fine balance between the smooth melodic sound, the deeper progressive sound and a vocally led track.
2) True Love (Sami Saari Remix) Sami Saari's take on 'True Love' takes it in the direction of something much more funky sounding. Trembling chords, a cheeky lead and a load of crazy filtering gives this a totally undeniable funky house feel. This kind of funk has given way recently to the more dirty, griding electro sound, so it's good to hear it coming through once more. A nicely made, groovy little number.

3) True Love (Vadim Soloviev Remix) Vadim Soloviev has focussed on the progressive features of 'True Love'. The deep, well crafted bass rhythms are very progressive trance in nature, as are the linings of delicate synths and the constant use of those idle, floating melodies. The bass is catchy and groovy though, and the track flows very well, avoiding any repetitive feeling. The lead in the breakdown is also worth noting - it has been deliciously deepened into a fulfilling and heavenly sound. This track does share a lot of similarities with he Original Mix, but the overall sound just seems deeper within prog territory.
Conclusion:
For those into the gentler side of trance, this should be looked at - specifically the Original and Soloviev remixes. DJs after a funkier sound should not miss on Sami Saari's remix, as it will definitely work wonders in funky sets.
