Leama & Moor have described 'Common Ground' as "...an album for listening that takes the listener on an evolving journey..." and they describe the music saying it ranges "...from electronic film-scores, ethereal tangerine dream-like soundscapes and their trademark floating melodies right through to electro tinged growlers & rock vocals.". That's some pretty good descriptive work right there.

The album consists of 11 tracks mixed together in the form of a continuous mix, aiming for one long unbroken session which helps achieve the musical journey that Leama & Moor have aimed to create. The album has taken over a year to record. Leama and Andy's goal was clear to them right from the start - "...quality electronic music with no compromises.". Let's get to it.

Now, if you were expecting some of the Leama & Moor trance that you know and are used to, then think again. 'Common Ground' took me by surprise right from the start. The album is comprised of a large variation of tracks, but a lot do retain a kind of ambient basis to them, which is a close link to trance music I guess. You don't hear a 4x4 beat until around tracks 4 and 5 and soon after that you go into calm breakbeat territory and then chop and change between the mixed up genres of chilled blended trance, breakbeat and ambient. It's nice how things change like that though - the same sound isn't kept for too long, and that's a good feature.

One thing to note about this album is its pace - it comes in at about 110BPM (but the last few tracks come in at around 130BPM), so yes, it's really laid back. It's not really noticeable though, since the tracks are so nice and varied. They feature some great and highly creative use of sfx and you can tell that a lot of time and effort was spent in getting things to be *just* right.

This album is definitely a real listening album - you need to in order to pick up all of the sounds contained within. Yes it would make for an excellent post-club chillout CD but all of these tracks really do need to be fully appreciated. Some of the best tunes on the album include 'Neon Approach', 'Everything Matters', 'Forever' and 'Communication'.

Conclusion:
This CD is something different indeed, especially for those who were expecting soemthing in Leama & Moor's usual trancey style. Different isn't a bad thing though, because I think this CD really shines. There's a great variation in stye to be found here and all of the tracks have been produced meticulously to the highest quality. A fantastic listen!
