One of Holland’s finest exports into the dance world Ron van Den Beuken is setting dance floors alight at the moment and right now he has a nice single sided EP floating around that’s well worth checking out.
Normally when I’m reviewing a record it’s just me and the record in my own little domain but this little number from one of the big names on the Trance scene I had the pleasure of hearing live. Not only that the man himself was playing it to me, and the other few hundred people who attended the Godskitchen event in Bournemouth last month. You always hear tracks and for weeks on end after search to hunt them down. Here’s one less for me to hunt down.
Mary Go Wild
The opening of this track is typical Ron in my book, a hard thumping backdrop bringing it layer upon layer and a good slap along with the beat. The lead on the track feeds in the melody with fred baker style kick drums in the background. The beats fizzle out and in comes the melody. The melody is a nice series of echo tinted strings which really create a good atmosphere in the track. When I heard the melody to this live on a big system words do not do it justice. It’s simple but it works extremely well. After this 1st round there's a short build and the track begins to build up to another melody sequence. It feeds in and out of the background teasing you as to when it might strike back. Cut the drums and symbols, back it comes. Ron really has put together a very nice thought out melody here and one that gets stuck in your head. When this track came on live the thud from that Beuken beat really does hit you.
Conclusion:
This really is a good record by Mr Beuken. It’s a hard techy edged affair with a cracking melody that really keeps the interest throughout the track. I’m sure if you’ve heard this track on a live system you may well appreciated it more than just listening at home, it’s a fantastic record in either case. One I’d suggest to get hold of and slam on the turntable.
