We start the album with one of Steve Helstrip's latest productions, 'By Your Side'. Featuring angelic vocals, chilled Ibiza style summery guitar melodies and soothing chords, its a great way to get the album rolling. The vocal aspect is kept as 'Air For Life' is blended in, keeping things interesting with its deep and grinding bass hits. Into track 3 and we're still vocal, this time with the new and widely championed 'Who's Knockin'' from Ferry's new label. The gentle and uplifting theme is stepped up somewhat as we move onwards, taking in the stronger sounds of tracks from AR52 and Kay Stone. Truly great albums usually have certain sections or passages of tracks that really stand out and can be listened to over and over again. I think we've found one of these here from tracks 6 through to 11. Here we're treated to an awesome concoction of trance. Skyform - Infinite, Haylon - Starfighter, Summer Sessions Feat. Michele Smith - Blossom (review coming soon to i:Vibes early next week - don't miss it, this track is intense!), Acues & Elitist - Zonderland, Jose Amnesia Vs. Serp - Second Day and finally Sander van Doorn - A.K.A. all band together to make a seriously sumptuous centrepiece for this first CD. This passage of 7 tracks basically encompasses this summers hottest trance excellently. Plus, seeing a van Doorn production - especially A.K.A. - is great I think because it not only demonstrates the variety of style and versatility of Helstrip as a DJ but also because it helps demonstrate the versatility of van Doorn's production ability too. Anyway, back to the album. Carrying on from this tougher sound, cool tracks from Orkan Shibuya and Mr. Sam seamlessly follow, showing the darker and tougher side of The Thrillseekers. This wondrous CD is finished off by a movement back into trance with a new track from Mike Koglin and then finished off masterfully with the incredible A Force Feat. Yahel - Behind Silence. The CD is well mixed, mostly comprising of smooth and flowing, blended transitions which works well as to not break the flow and rhythm of the CD as a whole.
Disc 2 - The Producer
01) Pulser - Square One 02) 8 Wonders - The Morning After 03) Armin van Buuren Pres. Alibi - Eternity 04) Lange - Sincere For You 05) Free Radical - Surreal 06) Witness Of Wonder - Emotion In Motion 07) Usual Aspect - Mr Blue 08) Evolve - Safe To Dream 09) The Thrillseekers Pres. Hydra - Affinity 10) Sholan - Can You Feel (What I'm Going Through) 11) Ferry Corsten - Sublime 12) Jan Johnston - Calling Your Name
The second outing on this album is a mix of The Thrillseekers' remix and production work, so we have an incredible array of talent on show here - some of the best artists, tracks, remix and DJ work are all on offer. A range of tracks is on offer, some older, some brand new - basically work covering a broad spectrum of The Thrillseekers' career to date. Overall, the CD keeps at a purely trancey and gently melodic level, with all the tracks being very similar in style. Highlights of this second CD are tracks from Free Radical, Witness Of Wonder, of course Steve Helstrip himself and Jan Johnston. People did rumour that it'd be an unmixed CD but that would've defeated the object entirely so again this CD is very nicely mixed, in Steve's lovely trancey style.
Conclusion:
To put it short, 'Night Music' is 2 CDs of class. Very eagerly awaited and very well received, this album is up there with the best of them and I never doubted that it wouldn't be. Don't miss this.
