Soren Weile, half of F&W, ATN and Tukan steps up with a solo release on F&W Records, under the name “Riot”. Is this another instance of the F&W magic…?

For almost a year now, it seems that anything that F or W touches just turns to gold and frankly, this is no exception!

:: Soren Weile – Riot
:: F&W Records
:: FWREC009

1) Riot (Original Mix)

The original version begins energetically with a punchy kick and some deep, arpeggiated bass to get things moving right away. More percussive elements are introduced and a deeper, grainier bass appears, giving the track a familiar F&W sound. Some silky pads and trancey arpeggiated hooks build atmosphere and give you a taster of what is to come. In the quiet breakdown, some tentative synths provide the backing for some intriguing whispered female vocals. Every once in a while the silence is broken by a massive burst of high energy synth which cuts through the track with incredible strength. The only thing left to do is to drop the track back in, this time lead by the awesome synth playing a great, catchy melody. Soren has combined all of the powerful elements here – deep, grinding and driving bass, precision percussion, and out of this world, penetrating, powerful synths which slam this tune all the way home. Awesome.

2) Riot (Complexz Remix)
This remix takes a noticeably more laid back approach. There is still a powerful kick moving things along, but the background of the track is awash with soft synth chords and reverbed sfx which make for a gentler, more trancier sound. The lead instrument is a fairly simple synth which plays a new melody and after the breakdown, is eventually backed by some crisper synths repeating a hook which is recognisable from the original. A strong remix, geared towards those who prefer the more melodic and less driving side of trance. That said, the backing synths used here still produce an overall energetic feeling.

3) Riot (Instrumental Mix)
Lastly, for good measure, we have the Original Mix but this time without the vocals, making for that extra bit of choice for the DJ.

Conclusion:
‘Riot’ is an excellent track, a great effort by Soren Weile. The powerful Original Mix is my personal favourite but really you can’t go wrong with any of the three different mixes.
