It is time for another new track on RR Records! This time its a new pair of tracks by The Mystery. Already favourites with the likes of Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond, read on to check out these two new hard trancers, 'Fever' and 'Emotion', for yourself...

Its been a while since The Mystery, more widely known as Ron van den Beuken, appeared on RR last - well back into 2003 with 'Feel For You'. But once again he has donned his mysterious guise (heheh) and produced some more of his harder and darker edged trance, in the form of 'Fever' and 'Emotion'. The pair are scheduled for release on the same piece of vinyl on the 28th of June.

A) Fever
'Fever', on the A side, begins quickly exhibiting a solid kick with a good percussive backing, some quick moving, rolling bass and a rough synth quietly driving the track forward in the background. The track progresses further, beginning to envelop you with soft trancey synths playing the initial hints of a melody. The breakdown makes you wait for the onset of the melody, but its worth it when it comes in. The synth used has a very nice and very interesting sound. Its quite powerful, but has no strong bass tones so it doesn't smother the track. It is heavily reverbed so it seems to hang in place as its playing. On top of that, portions of it are also subtly flanged in and out for more effect. The melody itself isn't over complicated but the full loop is longer than most so it retains interest. Plus its also a great sounding melody, which always helps! A fairly long breather section follows next - long enough to perhaps fool people into thinking the track is going to end. But instead of ending you're treated to a mini breakdown and the onset of more full powered melodic loveliness. After these last few minutes, the track rolls itself up quiet quickly, in a similar fashion as to how it began.

AA) Emotion
'Fever and 'Emotion' both seem related somehow, as 'Emotion' on the AA side of the vinyl begins similarly - a solid beat and percussion quickly joined by energetic bass which drives the track forward. Now however, 'Emotion' takes its own path. You can feel its more of a slowly building track, creating tension and apprehension with a growing sustained synth chord in the background, giving way to a staccato synth playing a chord progression in the breakdown. The main melody is brought in near the end of the breakdown - big big trance synths playing the same chord progression but this time in true van den Beuken stabbing style, reminiscent also of Sam Sharps sound. This is one of those tracks that take you up to a high point and hold you right up there with the epic synths. There is also a little variation at the end of each melodic loop which goes down very well and really demonstrates the lead synths power. Similar in structure to 'Fever', 'Emotion' utilises a longish cut down section before progressing into a nice build-up and back into a final main section.

Conclusion:
'Fever' and 'Emotion' are both fine, fine tracks indeed. The Mystery has made his mark again with two great sounding energetic pieces of harder trance. 'Fever' is more melodic and has less pace, while 'Emotion' definetly stirs a few, picking up the pace and packing a punch. With two fine tracks like these on one slice of vinyl, you can't go wrong!
