Germany based label Fenology is back on track with a new release, being the follow-up the the much talked about Scirocco - 'Scirocco'. This fourth FEN release features an original mix from a new talent and a remix by a project of a well-known producer...

'Moonrush' are basically Ron Creemers and his mate Gaston Serpenti. Ron is a 28 year old Dutchman who has been producing for quite some time now. The remix is done by Alex M.O.R.P.H., Henry Nix and Mathias Gierth under their Arc In The Sky guise. Alex has been responsible for originals or remixes on all the Fenology releases until now, including Woody van Eyden - 'Unfinished Symphony' (Arc In The Sky Remix), Alex M.O.R.P.H. - 'Flaming Clouds', and Scirocco - 'Scirocco'.

A-side: Arc In The Sky (In Search Of Atlantis) Remix
To kick things off, this remix has been played by biggies like Tiësto, Johan Gielen, Scott Bond, Steve Helstrip and Armin van Buuren, who even gave it the 'Tune Of The Week' spot in one of his recent ASOT shows.
The track starts off with the familiar M.O.R.P.H.-styled kick, accompanied by some familiar percussion. As usual, more and more ticks, tacks and FX get added along the way, enabling the DJ to mix it in flawlessly. At around one minute, the main bassline kicks in. This could best be described as a rough, rolling bassline, again sounding like earlier tracks, but that's just his style. All the percussion returns, now being backed by a low-volumed repeating synth, which tends to get just a bit louder and louder, it seems. Some very subtle string-notes get added as well, hurling us right into the break. All that remains here is the bassline, but it soon makes room for a dark portion of thin strings. This is also where the first part of the main melody comes in: at first this sounds rather simple, but if you listen longer and more carefully you can just feel the emotion floating right through it. it is also not your usual kind of synth used here; the sharp, high notes make it sound rather slim, but somehow energetic as well. It gets strengthened even more when all the other elements kick in, creating a blasting climax. We even get treated with a piano playing along with the melody, creating just this extra bit of completion. All this makes this remix a tasty flavour, which will certainly cause some frenzy.

B-side: Original Mix
Directly at the beginning of the track it is noticeable that this original is just a bit more laidback and chilled out than the remix. A thick kick, some shaky sounds and a few hi-hats guide us to the bassline, which reminded me just a bit of a bassline that Ferry used in one of his System F tracks, apart from the rather deep tones. Building and building, the track reaches a mini-break at 1:30, introducing us to a thin choir-sounding sample which changes chords every few seconds. This repeats itself until into the main break part; elements fading away slowly, with the only remains being the earlier mentioned choiry samples and a synthline or two. This is also where the main melody kicks in; a fast, high-paced synth playing a not too stomping melody, backed by some breakbeats. Soon, a drumroll injects itself into the track, causing the main percussion and bassline to become close friends with the melody again. All this sounds well-fitting, but it seems to be missing something. The production is very clear and sharp, but it lacks just that bit of emotion that I like so much in this style. The melody is okay, but tends to get a bit too repetitive during the progression of the climax.

Conclusion:
The Arc In The Sky Remix is definitely what you should go for on this slice of vinyl. A tough piece of somewhat harder trance with a tempting melody and a very good use of both beats and bassline. The original mix is well-produced and has a nice fusion of all the elements, but kinda misses the mark with the melody. I also noticed that the remix doesn't have much to do with the original to be honest, but that might be me.
All in all a superb remix on side A, not to be missed by you trancy guys out there!
