Scirocco is a new project on the Fenology label, which had a great first release with the monster-track 'Unfinished Symphony' by Woody van Eyden. The second release, Alex M.O.R.P.H. - 'Flaming Clouds' was received very well as well, and now the third installment is here.. Read on!
Scirocco is a new alias for Alex M.O.R.P.H., who also produces under his Arc In The Sky guise, which recently had a new release called 'Vainquer'. Also, the Alex M.O.R.P.H. Mix has been picked up by Scott Bond for the Gatecrasher compilation he did last year.
A1: Alex M.O.R.P.H. Mix This mix starts off with a muted kick, a bit of percussion and a thin bongo sound. After about half a minute the full kick and bassline kick in, sounding very familiar if you've heard other productions by mr. M.O.R.P.H. As the track progresses, a repeating synth gets added, playing a melody which reminded me alot of a track by Three Drives called 'Carrera 2'. Must be coincidence. More and more synths get added on the way to the break, playing melodies that fit perfectly together. Elements fade away, and the break starts. Some strings are playing a nice melody, with a few accompanying, and rather original synth sounds on top of them, playing something that looks like the start of a melody. A sharp, fast synthie sound comes in, playing a rather simple, but very well crafted melody that has just that bit of emotion in it that was needed here. The percussion appears again, slowly building up towards the climax by loosening filters and adding bass frequencies. The 'simple' melody is being accompanied by a fast, driving synth sound, creating an overall energetic and more or less banging feel during the climax. At around the 6-minute mark the build-off starts, slowly losing elements on the way to full silence.
A2: Impulsive Drive Remix The man behind Impulsive Drive is Marc Martinez, Jaron Inc.'s brother. Jaron Inc. runs the G&M Project together with Robert Gitelman, and it sounds like he helped his brother a bit as well because the kick and bassline used at the beginning of the track sound alot like earlier Jaron Inc. / G&M Project productions. More and more percussion gets added, until a synth comes in that looks like the one used in the Alex M.O.R.P.H. Mix, which makes the track flow further. At all of a sudden, a mini-break appears in which a part of the main melody is being played. The bassline starts changing chords in order to keep up with all the other elements, until the break comes in. Thin strings play the same melody as the A1 Mix, being guided along by the tingly synth with the emotional melody on top of it. Marc has added a nice little twist to the melodies by creating a new, accompanying and very well worked out melody which fits in nicely with the previous ones. The typical G&M beat and bassline go well together with all the other elements, resulting in a nice climax. At around 5 minutes, the repeating synth from the build-up returns, but soon disappears again to let the track build off.
B: Shane 54 Remix Shane 54 is a Hungarian producer who had hits with his 'Equinoxe 4' and alot of nice remixes for artists like Lange and Above & Beyond. His remix commences with the things we should be used to by now: a kick, guided by some hi-hats. After a minute or so, the track stops for a split second, but returns fiercely with a very deep bassline. This bassline really boosts the track to a new dimension, and it gets even better when a synthline gets added which is playing a nice subtle melody on the background. The tingly sound from the other two mixes returns again as well, leading us right into the main break part. A repeating synth at a rather low volume is hearable, being accompanied by some sounds we heard in Alex M.O.R.P.H.'s mix as well. As the tingly sound returns, a new, rather fast melody appears on the background, resulting in a very nice build-up. A muted kick adds itself to the structure to build-up the tension in an even better way, before blasting the track away into the climax.
Conclusion:
All in all, a very nice third release on the Fenology label. My pick is the Alex M.O.R.P.H. Mix: powerful percussion, a huge break and a ferocious climax make this a track to watch out for the coming months. The Impulsive Drive remix is nice as well, but it doesn't add that much to the A1-mix, though the whole structure and atmosphere are done in a pleasant way. The Shane 54 remix has that nice little bassline, but lacks just a bit of energy. It's nice to listen to at home, but I think the other mixes would be better dancefloor-material. Next release on Fenology is Moonrush - 'Risky Business', which features an Original Edit and an Arc In The Sky vs. Atlantis remix. Has already been played by Scott Bond, Darren Tate and Steve Helstrip. No release-date has been set yet.
