Here is 'Symsonic' - or 'Its Up To You' - Rank 1s latest work for us all, backed by the might of the one and only ID&T. It comes in the guise of two mixes - the vocal Original Mix and the super tranced up Instrumental Dub...

Everyone knows Rank 1 - they are responsible for great tracks such as 'Awakening' and the classic anthem 'Airwave'. Their latest track, 'Its Up To You' - also known as 'Symsonic' - is going to put up a good fight for a place amongst Rank 1s best works.

A: Original Mix
This track starts with a light and simple percussive section, which is used as a foundation for a semi-gritty bassline which is introduced after a minute or so. Shortly after this, more percussion is added and several synths play slight backing melodies in the background to give the track some depth. This is a very vocal track and here is where the vocal starts. It continues into the breakdown, which consists mainly of the nice sounding vocal backed by a nice spread of ambient synth. The vocal gives way to the building introduction of the main synth and then track kicks in with a melodic beaty section. The vocal soon returns - a nice addition to this already calm and pleasant sound. There is nothing too over powering here - the beat isn't too heavy, the synths aren't too strong and the vocal floats clearly above the rest of the sound. There is a final melodic section, after which the track begins a long but steady wind down to its close.

B: Instrumental Dub
The Instrumental Dub takes a completely different approach to the track. It starts with a strong hefty beat backed by some simple hi-hats. The beat becomes a little staggered before there is a small gap after which the real foundation of the track kicks in. This consists of the same hefty beat and hi-hat based percussion but this time it comes with a really nice and deep bass which bowls along nicely and commands the track onwards. The only vocal this track features are small snippets of the "You know what to do" sample, which appear periodically. As you approach the inevitable breakdown, a shrill synth plays a simple melody to warm you up. The breakdown itself is very orchestral - highly contrasted to the initial forcefulness of the tune. Sweeping strings and a very eastern sounding flute instrument introduce the melody, before it is taken over by powerful but controlled trancey synth. The tune dives straight in as the full melodic power of the synth is unleashed - it sounds wonderful and will send a shiver down your spine. The melody has a very triumphant overall feel to it and this point of the track has an almost orchestral score soundtrack-esque feel to it. A small vocal sample break gives way to the shrill synth which in turn leads the track out to its final section where it winds down to an end.

Conclusion:
The Original is a very laid back vocal affair which is extremely pleasant to listen to - the vocal trance enthusiasts among you will like this one especially. The real power is found in the Instrumental Dub, though. The epic sounding synth/melody combination contains an awesome feeling of triumph and will have every hand on the dancefloor in the air - Rank 1 has another winner!
