Founder of the well known trance project 4 Strings, Carlo Resoort, steps forward with a piece of heavy handed, rock solid tech trance - 'Musica'.

With big releases from 4 Strings such as 'Daytime', the great 'Into The Night', 'Diving' and 'Let It Rain' before him, Carlos Resoort has a lot of expectation to fill. With almost a decade of experience behind him, he has a very distinct advantage!

The Musica vinyl comes with two versions of the track - 'Musica' on the A-side and 'Musica-a' on the flip.

A: Musica
'Musica' weighs in at 140BPM. From the outset, a very strong and heavy kick drum pounds along backed by some very effective on-beat bass and basic percussion. You can tell straight away from the strength of the sound that this track will not relent at any point. Soon, the bass is beefed up a little more, the percussion is made stronger and a very electronic sounding synth jabs away in the background. This in turn brings on another trancier sounding synth which grows in the background, playing a strong and steady stabbing melody. Its very simple but the beat, bass and synth work very well together to create a driving force of sound with strength, urgency and determination - perfect for good, solid tech trance! There is a small break which focuses on the main synth and its stabbing melody along with some vocal "Musica-ca-ca" samples. The track throbs back into life and continues on its way. An 'inverse' break comes next - everything is dropped but the beat, so it can be built back up again and resume from where it left off. Another main section of powerful beats and synth tops off this wonderfully dark and extreme track before it calms slightly at its end.

AA: Musica-a
'Musica-a' comes in at a slightly lesser 139BPM as opposed to its big brother on the A-side. Right away, from the sound of the weaker beat and softer bass you can tell this isn't as hard and tech trance driven as 'Musica'. Infact, it is very much progressive trance, with a harder edge. After a while, the percussion steps up a gear and then the track leads you into the first break. This is used to allow the main, very rough and electronic sounding synth to build up and take control of the track. The synth and percussion calm down, allowing for it all to build back up again into the second break where the synth strengthens again and plays through a final main section before the end. Unfortunately, this version - 'Musica-a' - suffers a little from lack of variation and may not appeal to those who can't stomach progressive style trance.

Conclusion:
'Musica-a' on the flip may not appeal as much to the same audience as its big brother version, due to the absence of variation. It is by no means a bad track however - just mroe progressive in style. 'Musica', on the A-side is a fine, thumpingly strong techy sounding track. Its mean beat, rigid bass and determined synth give it a wonderful dark quality, making for a great piece of hard, dark tech trance. Very nice.
