Ralph Kyau and Steven Moebius Albert are next up to produce Anjunabeat's latest offering of trance. Scheduled for release in January, and already playlisted by Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk, how does the new track, 'Velvet Morning', stand up to the competition...

The answer to the above question is, "Very well indeed!"! This is no surprise as the East German duo have been producing and remixing since 1996. Their latest piece, 'Velvet Morning', is next in line on Anjunabeats and comes in the form of a Mirco De Govia Remix and an Aalto Remix on the flip.

A: Mirco De Govia Remix
The track starts off with a modest kick and percussion which is soon joined with a trickle of semi-ambient backing synth. This leads on to the addition of a nice bassline. Already the track has established a very good flow and continues to build on this solid foundation. An acid-trance inspired instrument is added before the centre-piece male vocal begins. It seems male vocals are increasing in popularity now since Armin Van Buuren and Ray Wilson released 'Yet Another Day'. Nevertheless, the male vocal in 'Velvet Morning' works very well and fits in with the track nicely. The breakdown comes around later than most tracks - which is nice, as an over enthusiastic breakdown can ruin a track sometimes. It features some nice ambience, along with the synth driven melody and vocal lead. This track is one of those that carries you along effortlessly with a subtle melody and very ear pleasing sound. There is no striking prominence here other than the intermittent vocal - instead everything works together to create one whole sound. A quieter rest period is next, followed by a short vocal break, after which the final main section plays out and leads into the closing sections of this nice track.

B: Aalto Remix
From the start, you can tell the Aalto Remix is a more upbeat track as it starts briskly with a rough synth backing the initial beat and percussion, along with sfx and vocal sample edits. The bass is a lot more driving in this mix. The breakdown in this mix is very nice. It comes in 3 parts. First is a quiet ambient section featuring the male vocal. Next in the breakdown is a breakbeat section. Lastly, you have a quiet synth and kick-roll build up to the main section. All through the breakdown, in the quieter sections at least, you can hear in the background samples of crowd cheers and whistles. The main section of the track is dreamy yet driving - a sea of synth topped off with a simple melody over the top, complemented periodically by the male vocal. After another short vocal breakdown, the melody undergoes one final adjustment - a piano plays another melody over the top. This is a very welcome variation just before the track begins its wind down.

Conclusion:
'Velvet Morning' is a lovely piece of trance. Each mix on the record provides a nice dreamy trance feeling reached in differing techniques. All in all, another fine addition to the Anjunabeats collection.
