I'm hoping for Hyper.

While I'm making hopes like that, I hope someone gives me a set of Numark CDJ tables and a Pioneer DJM-600 mixer.

Well I voted for Johan Gielen, but I think Armin van Buuren will win this year.

Which makes you wonder, is it a contest for best DJ, or most popular?

Perry O'Neil
Markus Schulz

I voted for these guys! Armin would of been there but he's just playing the same stuff now, I liked him when he had a little bit more flow and 'journey' to his sets ... Not saying he's rubbish though, still look up to him! Smile

It doesn't make you wonder at all, it is a case of popularity and thats a fact. Why do you think Tiesto won it last year? Because he's good? Laughing

People just starting to get into the music straight away go for Tiesto because he's well known ... I started listening to "trance" around 1998/1999 and the first really amazing track I heard was Gouryella - Gouryella (Ferry/Tiesto) and therefore started to listen to these guys but as the years have gone by I've become more diverse and further away from these guys ... Feels abit like they havnt improved or matured with me and it's unfair and ashame that Tiesto will probably win it again this year ...

Personally i think all the top 100 DJ thing is just a popularity contest as far as im concerned as long as they produce music i like i couldn't care less whether they are in the top 100 or not.

Same situation here... As of late I've really been getting into progressive and am finding trance less and less appealing. That being said, I'll probably be back into trance in two months.

to be honest, I didn't find this album to be anything terrific, I have a promo of it, and it's a sad miss. It's a compilation of 5 minute cuts, which you can't really use in a set. I'd say it misses the mark, but thats just me, I think Just Like a Man ruins the feeling too.

As far as the top 100, well we all know that it isn't really legit, noobs will always vote the top jocks because of word of mouf' , but I seriously want J Zabiela to make it really high.

Im not one of those people who really defends Tiesto, but When I saw him about 2 months ago he was spot on. He delivered an amazing set with no screw ups. If he wins, he wins. It may be a "Popularity" contest, but he wouldn't be so popular if people didn't enjoy his music.. period

PvD
Armin
Tiesto
Ferry

the four that are single handly killing trance, they used to drive it, now they just make the same mold stuff for more money, it's crushing it.

This statement is really ridiculous, it might have been more accurate to say that some of these DJ's are losing their touch and should maybe consider moving onto other things or retiring all together.

This being aimed at PVD and Tiesto, after both releasing below standard new albums. I dont think they deserve the praise they once did, I saw both of their sets at Global Gathering this year and they really wasn't anything special like they have been.

However as for Ferry and AVB both of their sets were really great at GKGG and both of their last albums, '76' and 'Right Of Way' had some amazing tracks on them. To say either of the two albums are "killing trance" is just stupid. Rolling Eyes

I voted for both of the above and also Above & Beyond, Matt Hardwick and Mauro Picotto. I think Hardwick and Picotto in particular need to gain higher places this year as they have been faultess this past year, both in terms of productions and Dj'ing.

i must agree Tiesto and PVD have been a little dissapointing but Ferry and Armin have been awesome thoughout the year so far and their sets at creamfields were brill. so i voted for them and above and beyond. as well as mat hardwick and scott bond.

Let's take a look at the 4 Pop artists, shall we? Paul van Dyk probably has the most respect from me out of the four. He's a good DJ, and he knows how to work a crowd. He's a bit lacking in the production studio, but I could overlook that if he would just quit pounding away at it. He's not improving, he's just leeching off his own famous name.
Armin was once an amazing DJ. What he lacked in mixing skill (which was very little), he made up for in track selection. Somewhere around the time of his In Motion release, he lost it. His fame went to his head, and he lost the soulfulness in his music, and went to Pop. He only plays whitelabels and unreleased tracks, and only the ones that are safe. Without his innovation, he's nothing.
Ferry Corsten has been in a steady decline since the wave of Uplifting went down in quality. He couldn't possibly have forced his sound onto another track, so he made an attempt at adopting a new one, that he can't quite seem to master. His sets lack power, and most of the tracks he plays are just like Armins; safe. He fears to play something different, he feels he has too much on the line.
Tijs Verwest is my least favorite of the four, and I feel it is for a good reason. Almost all of his productions are below par, and those that aren't are produced with the help of more talented producers. His DJ sets are losing it as well; he went from Techno, to Trance, and then on to Vocal Pop. His last decent release was In Search of Sunrise 3, and that CD was borderline. His sound is a tired one, but he keeps banging it out as long as he has fans that have only listened for a year or two.

It's a matter of experience really; Paul van Dyk is the only one on that top 4 list worthy of mention. He has a good record, and I'm hoping he can pull out of his slump soon. The other 3 seem lost, and in 10 years, I'll bet they'll be referred to by EDM fans in much the same way as Scooter is today.

I fail to see how either Ferry Or Armin, have declined over the years. Maybe the trance Hey-Day of 1999 - 2001 has passed but both of them are still playing similar tracks in there sets to what they always played. As for playing safe trance records, in my opinion they play alot of popular tracks. Then again the tracks themselves maybe popular because they are good .... ? Wink

Ferry and Armin have always played and probably always will play straight forward uplifting and standard trance. If you're after something "different" then by all means vote for Markuz Schulz or another other DJ that specifically plays other sub genres of trance. But don't criticise Armin or Ferry for simply doing what they've always done, it may not be to your taste but that's another matter. And as for calling them Pop, just because trance has seen a recent surge in popularity over the last two years doesn't mean either of these DJ's will ever become regarded the same way Scooter are.

They are not Judge Jules Razz

I don't vote, because it comes down to popularity rather than skill. You say that Ferry and Armin spin tracks which are popular because they are good? What about Judge Jules? He spins popular stuff as well. I already regard them with contempt, whereas I actually have a minor amount of respect for Scooter. Armin hasn't always spun the style he has now, look into his past a bit more. The same could be said for Ferry as well, but it's not as noticeable.

If I was to vote, my list would look like this:

1: Hyper
2: James Zabiela
3: Dieselboy
4: Sander Kleinenberg
5: Sasha

OK, so who are the innovative trance DJs? Or producers, for that matter.
At least Ferry tried something different. Even if it didn't quite work. I think he's still uplifting at heart, with releases like Sublime, Everything Goes and Kyoto.
I also disagree when you say Armin went to pop. He lost innovation; but he didn't go to pop.

I doubt it. Ferry's earlier work was great, especially when he colloborated. Even if you liked early Scooter, you can't compare it to Gouryella and Out of the Blue.
What will it take for the trance scene to get back on track and start being innovative?

Armin has good ability but a lack of innovation and flow lets him down at the moment, he plays safe like a few people have said and I think he needs to play what his heart is telling him to not his pay-check.

Paul Van Dyk has alot of energy and is a crowd pleaser but he should stop 'remixing' and 're-editing' tracks making them worse and filling his sets with them... Slightly ironic since it's his set but I hate DJs who just play their own stuff.

Ferry doesnt appeal to me, his style has drastically changed and its more of a hard-house vibe which I dont like. More melodic, slower and long break-downs is what I like!

Tiesto is just a show now! 'Nyana' album set every week and a big concert every other week... He has lost the passion, the ABILITY TO MIX and to pick a decent tracklist - again, most of it is his own 'Lpve Comes Again' pop-crap! He got me into trance but now he makes me want something else...

This is just my opinion. Thanks. Smile

Although i agree with alot of what's been said here, except the Armin slamming which is just total rubbish and no amount of what anyone on this board says will make me agree. As for the part saying that Ferry's recent stuff has a hard house vibe Surprised name any of his recent productions that sounds like Hard House.

I think your a little confused son Razz

Ferry Corsten - Akarom
Ferry Corsten - Calling

not bad but he's better at uplifting slower trance which he should stick to
