most producers that I've spoken with say it does not matter as long as you get your vision and your ideas out there in a good manner.

this may sound like a stupid idea, but couldnt you use FL studio or Reason as your drum machine? Coul any actually get a record deal from using just those programs?

Yea, how do you think most people got a record deal!? If you wanna spend £10,000 on a complete studio just to find out you're shit, then go ahead, but most smart young people (like myself) went and dowloaded/bought/borrowed programs like: Fruity Loops, Reason and more ...

Yeah. They're good enough that someone will be able to see that your talent. Its sort of like driving a Minardi in F1. :p You won't win any races, but you can get noticed.

As long as the end result is how you want use the one which you find easiest and more at home to use.

Both are good, but it depends on your personal needs as a producer.

Airwave uses only an "Apple laptop, using soft synths & and plug ins without and outboard..."

Armin uses a big studio.

Outboard is better if you can afford it, I guess. But you can still get excellent results from software and in the end it's not what you have, it's how you use it.

Do most Drum Machines work the same way as FL, like with the sequencer?

You can make a remix of any song you want but for releasing it into the public domain, unless its out as a bootleg would need permission,

Not really too knowledgeble about the legal rights of a track but if its signed to a label then they have onwership of it and I would think would need permission from them for a remix. Dont take my word for it though.

well im gonna get either a drum machin (DR770) or stay w/ FL.
I will always have FL though. Im using the Demo. Ive found ways around the demo related stuff the allows you to not use some of the stuff w/ out a crack. It legal and free. I know how to use FL to the best of its ability even w/ out paying for anything!

DO either have any unique abilities? Better sounding?

I've found that one major difference from professional and amateur producers is in the drums. Often, beats made with popular production software some off as being hollow and cheap-sounding, in my opinion anyway.
I'm not sure if that has to do with what the pros use or just how they do it. Also, on the whole, you can tell straight away whether a track is pro or not, because the synths and effects sound a lot fuller on pro productions. This might be because of the programs/synths they use - there's only so far you can go with Fruity Loops and the like.

The trend that I've noticed is that a lot of tracks made with software are shitty because its so easy for people to get a hold of software and so they can easily produce shit.
Machines, on the other hand, are more expensive and the people who buy them are often people who are already serious and committed to making beats. Studios are expensive and if all you make are shitty tracks then you will be forced to sell get rid of your equipment just to pay the bills.

I dont quite get software.. Iv got as much as a person can handle and no real idea how it works. No one to help or anything. Reading a tutorial and having a friend help are two different things. I dont quite get the idea, and iv got no one kinda point me in the right direction. I feel, I might be more of a hardware person, But I doubt I will ever get to find out!

Peace
