I remember back in the day when La Bouche and Alice Deejay ruled and were wicked popular. Same with Crystal Method.

Could you please put some thought into your posts?

La Bouche are terrible (and dead, if I recall), Alice Deejay is simply filth and a complete hack. The Crystal Method are sort of on a downward swing these days.

First off, all i was saying was that those two groups were popular in my area, which was when was when I was like 7 years old. I am now 15. I didnt even listen to music at 7 years old. I didnt, dont currently, and never will like those groups, excluding Crystal Method. Beside, you probably havnt even been to Virginia. And if you have, who are you to judge us. Who the fuck do you think you are? God? You dont even have half a clue what I listen to, so dont go calling me musically challenged. How many people do know that live in Virginia. Besides, I only know to other people in my area that listen to techno. They are all to busy with their rock and rap. Which Is ok I guess. Every place in NY that ive been, the people listen to country, which is most definately some of the biggest crap I have heard. I was only trying to start a conversation about what was popular when they were kids.

Is that enough though Nick P?

Then why are you making a thread about them?

Yes, I have been to Virginia.

Yes, yes I do have half a clue. Your top 10 list seemed to be fairly demonstrative of your lack of taste and the fact that those are the only tunes you can remember from that time period reinforces this opinion. if you didn't listen to electronica other than that mass-marketed shit then, why the hell are you bringing it up? That wouldn't really leave much to discuss.

Quote:

Well, that wasn't made especially clear. And, given your ignorance of electronic music of that era, I'm not really sure why you'd try and do so.

Stop trying to justify that steaming pile of shit that you just shat out as an attempt at nostalgic discussion. I'm sick and tired of opening every thread, reading your shitty posts, and then seeing all on-topic discussion effectively ended when you get all belligerent because someone criticizes your poorly-thought out bastardizations of the English language.

I remember when DJ Jurgen had one hit song, that was oddly attributed to the talents of the singer, who had nothing to do with the song aside from live performance.

I remember when The Crystal Method released Vegas, and that was a great CD...still is, as a matter of fact.

And if La Douche were ever popular, I'm going to reevaluate my idea of good music.

Topic change: Anyone remember when Tilt still had John Graham (Quivver), Robert Miles changed the face of Trance, and Chicane had just put Far From the Maddening Crowds out? Those were great moments for Trance.

In fact, all BT's work until ET was influential. Miles had his moment, though everyone hates him. Way out West's first album....great......and can't wait till thier third.

DJ Jurgen is Alice Deejay...at least production-wise. He didn't do the vocals....

I think Emotional Technology was a great CD, if you just listen to it, rather than try to think Trance, or Breakbeat. Sure, it doesn't have any powerful tracks like Fibonacci Sequence, or dreamy tracks like Godspeed, or Flaming June, but it's still very influential album, in my opinion. It gets judged so harshly just because it's BT, not because of the actual tracks on the CD. Same with Paul Oakenfold's Great Wall, they just have a bad rap because of people's expectations.

BT's Emotional Technology is a landmark of the bridge between experimental, esoteric sonic techniques and straight-out pop. I think a track like "Somnambulist" exemplifies this. The vocals are edited to heck in a stuttery method more commonly associated with the chopped fractalization of IDM/Braindance, but the rest of the song is just a great radio ditty. Who else would possibly dare? It's such an *obvious* idea but technosnobs cower away from something like this just because it's so friendly and open. Which is strange. In retrospect, we'll only see more like this in the years to come. Not to mention the cover. No one else could do it -- it's BT's to do alone. Takes a lot of balls. Smile

As for Crystal Method, I am a big fan of their first and some of the tracks on their second, but I didn't personally care too much for Legion of Boom. Too many of the tracks sounded like they were using the same arrangement techniques or something... i.e. open with jammy guitar riff, bring in first drum loop, build to a sort of an opening climax, and then slam on the drums. I think collaborations like the one with Rahzel could have been done much more effectively too. This is just my personal taste though. "Busy Child" will always rank as a highlight, what an acid breakbeat masterpiece. Also the differences between the CD version of "Coming Back" and the MTV radio edit (I presume) -- stunning guitar solo!

ugh cut the crap people

Crystal Method have seen better days imo, BT's best was IMA (nothing touches that). BT seems content with producing pop music for the world now.

You want to go back in the day?

Leftfield's Leftism
Coldcut's 70 mins of DJ Madness
Oakenfold's Oslo GU

that's the shit

I dont care too much for BT. Ya, Crystal Method did has a better past. Their Vegas cd was quality, I havnt checked out their Tweekend cd, same goes with the remix cd. Their Legion of Boom was good but they could have done way bette. So ya they are a downward spin. Like many famous group, they had their time, and it was good.

I could go whole hog, and say the Double-disc release of Northern Exposure, or Renaissance: The Mix Collection volume 1, or any number of albums...but even I hadn't started listening that far back. I only really like to refer to "back in the day" as far as I've been listening, even if I love the releases before that.

Leftism is a great CD, by the way, one of my favorite albums ever.

I never considered BT to be Trance....Breakbeat....or any pigeonholed genre title like most prefer to put him in. He simply makes incredible music, to put a label wouldn't do the music justice. His new album to me is well produced, experimental, and totally executes its purpose to appeal to a broader audience. Though to call it 'influential'....eh...he has simply pioneered and mastered the tricks he used in this album in previous work and the vocals in my opinon are a bit blunt.

Yea, I have heard the preview on distinctive's website. The new CD is going to be the best yet. I heard them live at Avalon in NYC, after that I have been eager to get this ever since. And especially since it will be coming in a double CD, 2nd disc being a mix......that just seals the deal.
