Post Post subject: Copy Controlled CD's Reply with quote

I put this on another board to see what response and what others went thru..some i'm doing it again

I like to think that I enjoy buying cd's (especially since they have dropped the prices). I've always liked the real thing better than the burned copies. So I bought the Chemical Brothers 2cd set today and I see copy controlled right on the cd, which I have no problem with. If EMI (company that put out the cd) wants to do that then great, they are entitled to because they own the copyright. I like to use my discman all the time to go jogging and when I have to take public transit and that's really why I buy cd's to listen to while doing things. So 4pm, I'm going jogging, which I do everyday (gotta train for that marathon i plan to run in 2005 or 2006). Anyway I take my discman with me because I enjoy listening to music. So before I leave I put cd 1 in the discman and press play and the cd won't read. It read find in my stereo and my pc but not my discman. I tried cd 2, same problem but I put another cd in my discman and it works perfectly. I mean if EMI and other big companies want to keep people who enjoy buying cd's then they need to allow us to listen to the music in our discmans or anywhere. I have no problem if I cannot copy a cd to mp3 (even tho I know many ways around it, if I wanted to copy it, which I don't). Anyone had this problem or problems with copy controlled cd's?

Never come across a CD not playing in a portable CD player, saying that i dont own a player. Its fair enuff companys wanting to stop CD's burning to mp3 but I do find them annoying. I often like to slap a CD in the pc to listen to late at night while im doing stuff, coding, games etc.

Your right, the companies should ensure you can play the CD, protected or not on all forms on CD Specific (By that I mean CD players not CD drives etc) hardware.

I guess some cd players cannot play the copy protected ones... im sure the record companies would have known this, and decided to take the risk rather than to have their cds copied all over the place...

I dont agree with it though, Andy is correct, if u purchase a CD then it should be playable in any CD player that you may want to hear it in..

God knows, what happens if u were a CD DJ? And u wanted to play it in your club and fcuk, it wont read in the CD decks... then u just wasted $$ if u only bought it for DJing... hmmmm shitty! Rolling Eyes

I emailed them and have not heard back yet, I'm considering never buying an EMI cd again. I enjoy buying cd's and probably always will but when it works in my pc and stereo but not my discman, this makes me angry. It's the only cd to never read like that in my discman. I'm the one they want to keep happy because I'm buying cd's and not burning them for friends. Yet it won't work on my discman Sad. SO I've listened to U2's 2cd best of 1990-2000. Probably end up buying their new disc in April 04. Probably be out on Universal, their cd's play on my discman. EMI's loss really, not mine.

No chance of recording the CD that wont play in the discman onto a disc that will. Takes the piss of the copy protection but its there faullt that it wont play.

In principal i don't agree with copy protected CD's but i've never bought a CD that is copy protected. I think you should be able to play a CD whether on your PC or CD player.

SO EMI replies and said that they are more than happy to help me fix my problem. At least they care, so we shall see if it works. They want to solve the problem which at least shows they care.

They email me again saying they are trying to get me a non protected copy from another territory. I may still buy EMI cd's because a company has never gone to such lengths to keep me happy.

It's hard to find that level of service these days - most companies would be like, screw you! but in nicer words.

That is going well out of the way. To get another CD with no charge, must like to keep their paying customers happy.
