Post subject: How did you start listening to trance? |
|
|
It might be different in Europe, but here in Canada it's really a big deal to listen to any kind of electronic music. I catch some flak for it, because people just don't listen to it.
I started when I heard the Boomtang Boys' remix of the popular 70's track Popcorn. Then I heard Sandstorm somewhere and dowloaded a couple songs, not knowing what I was looking for. I found mp3.com and decided that the kind of electronic music I liked was trance, instead of techno (which is used collectively over here for any kind of electronic music.)
Somehow I found good old i:Vibes and discovered a lot of new artist and tracks and stuff.
But it's still really hard to buy any trance because nobody sells CDs or records of any kind of electronic music. And when you do find it, it goes for $40 a CD, which is overly expensive. I just buy compilations and hope for the best. And I download too, because there isn't any other way to get this kind of music.
So how did you get interested in electronic music?

Try online stores (even one in canada with pretty good prices) to find edm stuff.
www.musicselection.com (in canada w/ great 99 cent shipping)
www.dancegrooves.com (great if you order more than $50 worth of stuff)
www.juno.co.uk (nice prices and lots of promos)
I got hooked on trance with sunbeam - outside world, blank and jones - the nightfly, and green court - moonflight (essential club mix), hearing all of them in about a span of 2 days and then knowing that I had just fallen in love with trance.

Well my trance story is kinda embarrasing but I started to listen to dance in the middle of the 90's (I was a huge Scooterfan) but then about the time when Scooter released the Ratty project I thought that it was really really good so some months after that they had released Sunrise my brother introduced me too different kinds of trance so with the time I became a real trance addict and a real Scooter hater

Since I live in Belgium (capital of cheese projects like Milk Inc, Sylver, ...) I listened to that, and slowly but surely I became more interested in the melodies and so on...
Then I got a computer, and I found out about Armin, Tiesto, Ferry, and all the other uplifting DJ's...
And after listening to that, I became a progaddict, and still am today...progressive is just so much better then uplifting in my opinion, it can take me on journeys where other music cant take me...

The first time I heard and liked trance/dance/electronicmusic was about 1989 when the KLF were about, I loved them, then I had abit of a music break as I wasnt really into anything exept Oasis and the like
Then 1day in early 98 my mate stuck on his CD single of Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar and from then on I was hooked

I would have to say I was not really into music, of any kind greatly until I left school and started college.
Safe to say Trance Nation 2 was the first compilation I purchased and listened to it again and again, got me into trance.
Loads of CD's,12", singles and a rarther good recolection of the history surrounding the trance sound brings me upto now where I love it. None of that cheesy stuff tho, makes me want to be sick and gives the style a bad name.

| ....I started listening to trance back in the early 90's starting mainly with the Techno Trax series and getting hold of any new single and various techhno imports. Since I live Canada , trance or even techno wasn't quite popular and music came from word of mouth or underground clubs. Now trance is a lot more accessible today with the popularity of MOS and Mixmag.....although now trance seems to be more on the commercialized side. I do miss the idea of it being underground like it was then....

i think i started listening to dance music around 2000, after initially hating 'techno crap' hehe. first electronic music i liked was '666 - amok', 'darude - sandstorm', 'delerium - heaven's earth (matt darey remix)', 'push - universal nation', 'paul johnson - get down' and whatever was on radio at the time. my dad also downloaded some chemical brothers tracks, i really liked them. i think the first compilation i bought was 'gatecrasher - wet' and i've gone on from there

I've listened to Kraftwerk, Age of love, Klf, 2 unlimited back in the old days. The first trance compilation I bought was In trance we trust 2 mixed by Dj Stigma back in 1999...(which by the way was THE year of trance).
Nowadays I prefer Tiesto, AvB, Sensation, PvD, VDM, Gatecrasher etc.etc.

Started in the middle of the 90's. Israel is the capital of Psy'-Trance, so I listened to that music most of the time, then as it happened to trigaX I got my computer and affected by new original sounds..
Bottom line is I don't like Commercial or Hard stuff, more progressive, melodic and even Chill-out for me
