'One To Watch' - Tilllate
Michael Morph has been busy readying his much-anticipated album for Pure Mint, and here is the leadoff single Go Cat Go!.
Built around a mirth-making robotic voice intoning the familiar lyric from rock 'n' roll standard, 'Blue Suede Shoes', this catchy fidgety electro cut almost recalls Daft Punk in its skilful use of a simple-yet-deadly computerised vocal. With plenty of freaky noises and an absurdly infectious pitching bassline to satisfy the headz, this is a welcome return to the fray from somebody tipped by all the dance press as a DJ/producer to watch.
Theres a big remix package to go with this beauty. Morph himself turns in a dense, warped-bassline beast of a house remix, that bridges the gap between Radio Slave and Fake Blood. The re-fix of 'Go Cat Go!' by The Fix takes it down a hazin and phasin technoid route, making good use of top-end percussion and a rasping electro bassline. DJ Hal crafts a clicky, intricate, illuminating minimal rework that you can imagine lighting up Berlins Panorama Bar, whilst Videodrome soundscape an electro-funk meets Italo disco groover. Finally, newcomers to the scene [bNiteNoise[/b] turn in a remix that most resembles the originals vibe, employing the computerised vox to full effect and fashioning a great noisy electro-breakbeat track out of the parts.
Morph originally cut his DJing and production teeth in Nottingham, before relocating to Brighton on the south coast. Hes played alongside the likes of Groove Armada and the Plump DJs, from the Glade stage at Glastonbury to Matter in London, and had his tracks and remixes played by a selection of top radio and club jocks, from Laurent Garnier and Dave Spoon to James Lavelle and Annie Nightingale on Radio 1.
To celebrate the release of this big package, Pure Mint are giving away a free download of The Jump Off version of 'Do What You Want' ft. Yo! Majesty a track never before released. Just go to http://pure-mint.com/download/jumpoff and download for free.
Meanwhile, altogether now: Its one for the money
