‘Rebel Stories’ is TSS capturing the authentic sound system performance of DJs and MCs, utilising original versions with added effects.

“We’re here to take reggae out of its ghetto; we’re different from most other reggae collectives in the country, because we represent reggae in a 100% positive way. We want to introduce people to classic reggae, through tracks that represent the quality of the Trojan stable, with our vocals and productions atop as well.”

That’s the mission statement of the collective at the hub of the reggae scene’s A-list; from Horace Andy to Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Alcapone to Dr Alimantado (not to mention associations with Bugz In The Attic, Maxi Jazz, Mr C and Mr James Brown). Transferring one of their famed live sessions from festival to studio, with emcees darting in out of the mix to breathe fresh life into vintage dubs, selectors Earl Gateshead and Daddy Ad, a pair owning platinum CVs who’ve have been there, done that and got the T-shirt in every colour and size imaginable, recapture carnival time in chronicling, arguably reggae’s most fabled label.

TSS’ mission statement will always be dominated by whipping up crowds into a frenzy. “We would very much like to change how reggae is desperately ghetto-ised,” says Earl, echoing his compatriot’s sentiments. “I think that’s the spirit of Trojan as well; Trojan’s always been about explaining Jamaican music to European people, without losing authenticity. Reggae is a niche, about people, reality, real things, spirituality, that everyone likes, like a second favourite form of music. But there’s a lack of info about it. Once again we’d like to change that, that’s really our mission, to explain real reggae to people who are denied access by the current medium.”

Release date for this masterpiece is 15th May.
