I think this guys well underrated, he plays banging hard trance sets and gets hardly any mainstream recognition... M-Zone is also good, but I find it hard to find the names of a lot of his tunes. try http://freespace.virgin.net/mark.eg for his personal reviews of tunes monthly.. if you like his stuff from 99, then try pulsedriver stuff, try the Tunnel Trance Cd's, 8-13 have a lot of stuff that He's played, Triple Concept - Tonetwister is a fave of his, and One I worship, then anything by Green Court, DJ Bjorn, DJ Scot Project etc.. i got more stuff on my other comp, but until thats back up I can't help with names, I got far too many to remember, I'll add to this list when I've got it back

I Haven't heard any of his sets lately, I aint had the money to go out buying the tape packs, plus the standard of some tapes is really low now, so out of 12, theres only perhaps 3 or 4 I mind paying for, so it kinda defeats the purpose of it being a bargain like it used to be, I got a lot of his sets from 1998-2001 and like the progression he's made, from the really fast trance a la dj dean in 1997/8 to pulsedriver/jonah/joshua ryan etc in 1999 and onto some harder stuff in 2000/1 with more & more dj scot remixes coming in, some dj mind-x stuff, and 'Thunder in paradise' or 'the future is now' tunes which totally kick ass

Well mate ive only just got into the scene in the last year or so (only 17) Since November 2000 when i bought my first tape pack (North 19) ive bought 28 Tape packs ranging from Helter Skelter, Slammin Vinyl, North, United Dance, Substance, Hindsight, GBH and Hysteria Ranging from Old skool,Hardhouse, Hardtrance, Nu NRG, Techno, Hardcore even Acid
My fav Tape of all time prob is
Mark EG & M-Zone B2b Helter Skelter vs Compulsion "Energy 2001"
Its a wikkid set (every old mark eg and m-zone tune u want to hear is on it NICE)
Ive just started going To North at the void in Hanley and i love it
They mainly play techno there but good old mark eg, m-zone are regular there.
Went to the christmas party on december 2001 watched m-zone and he made me buzz proper style i was going mental (and i mean mental) on the dance floor i didnt want him to finish
Mark EG was meant to play the 11-12 Set but the bugger didnt turn up found out the north staf that he rang in at 10 and he had the FLu i was well gutted.
U heard of Cally and Juice they are wikkid as well They play hard trance and are just plain and simple wikkid
Got something to tell you that u wont want to hear
Mark EG and M-zone wont be playing any more back to backs. M-zone has told all club promoters not to book any sets back to back with mark eg.He explains it by saying that their music style is too different now
Only just found that out in the last couple of weeks
I reckon they will do 1 more old skool set soon prob at this years helter skelters if they decide to do any
If you want a list of the tapes ive got just write a reply here with ya email address and i will send u a word document for ya.
U go clubbin anywhere that follows the underground scene much?
P.s Keep an eye on DJ Farside he one last years dogs bolox at north and i was tehre to watch him (hes another mark eg in the making played some wikkid tunes i tell ya)
anyway im getting carried away i always do when someone mentions the name Mark EG
My tune of the week has gotto be Schwarze Puppen - Tanz (Skysurfer Remix)
see ya laterz
wat tape pack you got???

Post subject: Mark and his style |
|

Hi guys,
I've seen your chat and just want to add something. I know Mark personally and we had him playing on many parties in Canada. Mark was a favorite trance DJ for Canadian rave scene, until he got into accident in UK and Canadian immigration told him he is not welcome to the country for quiet a while. I also happened to know M-Zone.
Just a bit of history. Here, in Canada, we have World Electronic Music Festival running for seven years. It was 98 when my friends offered Mark to play on their party and they also had Chris Liberator in a line up as well.
As you know Mark is famous for his famous german cheesy trance back in UK. That why they played together with M-Zone. M-Zone is a trance hardcore and he would never change his style. Mark, on the other hand is pretty much fascinated with techno (hi is running techno review in WAX magazine). At that time he was crazy for Adam Bayer, Cari Lekebusch and Andreas Kramer stuff. Plus of course Liberator and the whole acid-techno scene behind him. So, Chris and Mark played a superb techno set together. After that they arranged few back-to-back parties in London clubs. You have to listen to his techno sets. They unbelievably good, but nobody is seeing Mark as a techno DJ back in UK. Poor Mark! Promoters want him to play his trance and he is amazing DJ. Honestly, guys he is much better than many to 20 DJ's in world. I am not saying that because I know him. I've heard a lot stuff and confidant in my judgment. It's just sad that nobody really knows this guy. My take on this that DJ becomes popular when he is making his music (I am not saying it's a rule). In Mark's case he is not sure what music he wants to make and after ATB's 9 p.m. became a hit#1 in UK top, Mark said that :"Fuck man, trance becomes commercial music, but I want to be an underground music DJ". So, he started to play mostly techno until 2000, at least in Canada and US.
He always had some avenit german white labels, so I guess he switched to hard trance. I haven't heard from him for a while, for obvious reasons I stated above, so I can't tell you what happened between him and M-Zone, but I guess Mik (M-Zone's name) told the truth. Now they playing very different trance. M-Zone is playing energy trance and Mark playing techno-trance. I have some of his old sets (as well as M-Zone's so drop me a line if you want to exchange them for his new stuff).
