Post Post subject: mp3PRO files and info on them Reply with quote

I got this quote from djmixes2k site http://d2k.dedserver.org

''encoded in mp3pro is 37.7 MB. The same set in 192kbps cbr normal mp3 is 75.3 MB. Remember that without the mp3pro plugin for winamp, the mp3pro files will sound like a normal 96kbps mp3... ''

what I want to know, if we get an mp3PRO plugin for winamp.. can we convert our existing mp3 files into mp3PRO files.... if using something like pcdj or VTT, would they just sound like 96kbps mp3s ? if that was so, it'd make conversions worthless unless they supported the other formats for anyone not using winamp, but if they would support them, It'd be cool cos we could all fit twice as many mp3PRO files onto our computers, saving space and getting more great tunes, making mp3PRO a great way forward, especially for those users on dial-up connections, only having to download for half the time Very Happy

Anyone with info on this, plz help

have u been downloading alot of FNP tracks recently ?? Razz

cos... your last two bootlegs of the week have been theres Laughing

... that mp3pro plugin sounds pritty sweet
on winamp.com searching for mp3 pro in plugins brings up no search results... so does that mean it isnt an official winamp plug in ??

on my MD i have there are options for Lp2 and Lp4 which are a way of conpressing the data and removing all un audioable sounds and so increasing playing time by x2 or x4, respectably. could this be the same with this mp3pro thingy ??

...... confusion Confused

Yeah I have, I think they're pretty cool, with the exception of the Airwave Pleasure one, i think True love never dies is the better Rank 1 mix, and the Universal Nation sounds better without lyrics in my opinion

Unfortunately this isn't possible without the loss of quality, because of the entropy of information. That's why archiving an archive (for instance making a .zip out of a .rar) doesn't produce a significantly smaller archive (it usually makes it larger if the original archive is with high compression)
Multimedia archiving techniques like JPEG and/or MPEG are with loss of information (both visual information for JPEG and visual/audio for MPEG) based on the fact the the human eye/ear has some operating limits. So for instance we can remove sounds that we are unable to hear. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to download a 100k file that contains a 10 min tune on my 33.6 modem, but that is not possible. (it would have to be at a very low bitrate)
