Post Post subject: WARNING on Importing Records from USA Reply with quote

I just thought I should let you know my experience.
After coming back from Innercity.... there was a track I wanted, wanted bad. it was awesome. It was:

Reloop - Fucking Society

I couldn't find this track anywhere... Then someone who was helping me find it spotted it on an American site for $9.99

Great i thought, then i saw that the mininum order from there was $10.00
So I had to order another record too. Anyway, 2 records for $19.98 , Shipping was $20 a lot i thought,, but why not for a one off. so for $40 i ordered 2 records from the states, thats somethign like £26/£27 i think. Not cheap but I really wanted.

IT TOOK THREE WEEKS TO ARRIVE!!!
lol
ANyway, I was happy it finally came but to my shock, Parcel Force the company delivering it to my door wanted payment for import duty and VAT!! I was not happy.. this was a futher £16

Scandle!!

So I got 2 records which worled out to be like £21 each!!!!!!!!!!!

I think i might not try this again, lol

But it is a dam good tune tho! lol

HMV are a bunch of *beep*. They are getting rid of their 'club card' promotion (in Canada at least). So that means that after spending ridiculous amonts for their CDs, there is no longer a reward. Cya later HMV, I'm taking my business to the online stores.

The *beep*ing customs people have gone nuts here in Ireland recently too, you can't get anything from the states without getting hit hard for extra tax (eg the 100euro charge on my $100 dollar nike runners!!)

It just goes to show how handy this "European Union" stuff can be.

HMV are the biggest bunch of extorsionate pricks in the world. the other day i saw a UK Ministry Of Sound Annual III (not the special leather edition, just a cardboard sleeve) for £21.99! for fuck sake! this album is not a classic AND i own the limited green leather version which was about £13 when i bought it. how can they justify such prices? Embarassed

hmv's pricing for vinyls online are actually ok compared to most other websites. the customs thing is beyond the record companies control. its the same if we import from UK to canada too. i have to pay customs and taxes when it arrives. its not always the case though. i've noticed that as long as the package i order isn't too big, they tend to let it go; but i really don't know how they do their thing. this is just a speculation. Smile anyway i've come to the conclusion that chemical records is the best place to order online.

iv'e ordered stuff from abroad, and it anonys me when the postman knocking on your door asks for the charges upfron bout 7/8 am, few things you could do, first one is tell the other guy, not to put a recipt/anything with the price on in the package, they cant tax what they dont know the proice of, and secondly, i think if the package is declared as a gift import duty/tax? is waived on any item worth upto £30, well anyway its worth a try? nothing seems to get unnoticed past customs for me, even with ppl saying it does for them and my packages are usually small!

ripoff it maybe, but the sorry situation is that certain items, will never see the light of the day here, and only way is to import them, dunno with trance stuff, (cd's/vinyl) as the situation is probably reverse for the americans, oh, and its even worse ordering stuff from japan!!!!!
