Post Post subject: Vocals Reply with quote

I find with vocal tracks, I tend to not pay attention to what they are saying and concentrate on the effect it has on the track. Like, I treat the voice in the song as just another instrument. I listen to the words but more to the sounds of the words than what they actually mean.
I even do this to an extent with non-electronic music. I think it's an effect of listening to so much trance, but I was wondering if anybody else does this.

I'm doing exactly the same thing! For me, it's more about the chords etc. that are being sung than about the literal meaning of the vocals. I think vocals need to result in a certain emotional feeling during the track, which can be done by using good melody patterns etc Smile

Yes, it's also the same for me. Sometimes I visit forums, read discussions about song lyrics and wonder 'Should I be paying more attention to this?'. But a lot of the time the lyrics in trance are fairly meaningless so to try to analyse and interpret would be a fairly pointless exercise

I dont mind light lyrics in a song...like Summer Dream...but to me too much singing takes away from the melodys and riffs I'm trying to enjoy...

hehe as it seems everybody that listen to electronica is doin this AND THIS is a proof of the difference of electronica from the other kind of sounds! Electronica is approached differently from its audience, a special aproach to be liked and this aproach hides a total way of thinking and life(At least this is what i believe )

I do it with other types of music as well, not concentrating on the lyrics or even really considering what they mean. It's how the whole song SOUNDS, as a whole, the voice is just another instrument to me.
