This is an interesting genre guide put up on di.fm. I think it's been there for quite a while, but I just discovered it.
I don't agree with all of the subdivisions made (for example putting Ian Van Dahl with Vincent de Moor and Steve Helstrip), and it's opinionated, but it's definately worth a look, especially because of the samples.

(PS Andy - I might just like techno after all, or at least some of it - Jeff Mills - The Bells is a nice tune!)

'Ishkur's guide to electronic music' has been around for quite a while and the reliability of it has been argued and discussed ever since someone stumbled across it ages ago.

First of all, the graphics are a bit overkill..but otherwise it's pretty nicely done. It's partly quite correct but some parts are way off.. and he seems to have spent a lot of time bashing the genres he doesn't like.. i mean wasn't it suppose to be a guide, not a "i like this but not that" thingy?

And yes even if i'm not a fan of the harder stuff nor (new skool) techno either, there are some exceptions i like. Old skool is still my true love in most genres of EDM i listen to.

It's a pretty good guide imo.

Main strength is all the example-tracks for each subgenre described but I'm sure many ppl don't agree with the "boxes" certain producers have been put inside...

I agree with GrimReaper. Ishkur is too much busy with bashing genres and I'll bet he hasn't visited a lot of raves to build up the experience to back all this up. Although, a lot has to be taken with a grain of salt.
