Post subject: First Trance Songs Ever? |
|
|
| So I was reading a brief history of trance and there was a bit of controversy. What seem people seemed to agree on was that the first trance song ever was "Our Shorts" by Dance 4 Pants (I'm saying this from memory, it may not be exact.) Does anyone know (cough, PM, cough) where I could find this? Does anyone disagree? Is this not the first? What else is one of the originals. I dunno if "Liebe" by Cosmic Baby is old, but it sure seems geriatric. Thanks.

Since the definition of Trance seems to be always changing, it would be hard to pinpoint the exact moment any track truely became "Trance".

Well there isn't just one 'first' trance track as everyone sees the point of beginning a bit differently..
A few choices i'd think as the first 'decent' trancey tunes, even if some more industrial tracks had pretty trancey elements already in the latter half of the 1980s. Also artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis and other synthesizer wizards used lots of trancey elements about a decade before the likes of The KLF rediscovered them to use on various style of tracks and finally also the 'real' trance producers got their hands on music producing hardware to fill our souls with bliss. (NOTE: this isn't an infinite trance selection, just my personal choices of rather trancey tracks):
Dance 2 Trance - We Came In Peace [1990]
Age Of Love - The Age Of Love [1990, Jam & Spoon remixes 1992]
Moby - Go [1990]
In early 90s' trance really started to rise much stronger.. with Orbital - Halcyon, Jam & Spoon - Stella, Link - Amenity, Zyon - No Fate, Hardfloor - Acperience, ... In 1993 Energy 52's Café Del Mar finally found it's way onto an official release as well as Humate - Love Stimulation (with the timeless PvD Love Mix), Cygnus X - Positron, Metal Masters - Spectrum, Marmion - Schöneberg and many many others which have reached a classic/anthem status over the years.

| Grimreaper, thanks for the reply. Many of those songs I'd never even heard of! Helped me augment my classics.
