Clearing up the jargon

Is there anywhere to go for clear cut definitions of dance music terms? e.g. remix, edit, radio edit etc... Obviously I know about this stuff but there are some grey areas that I would like clarified if poss.

I never learned any terms like those from any guides its just something you pick up.

I never get to fussed about the differences between a mix or remix. A Mix could be numourous tracks but together seemlessly as one big track or just a different mix of a track. A remix is a different artist taking someone's original work and producing their own version of it. Dub, just aint got vocals in. Eidts and reworks are just usually artists fiddling around with tracks to make them more ear freindly or fit a set they are doing.

Most of the terms speak for themselfs, Radio Edit for instance. I think anyone would guess from the word what that is. Its just a track cut down in time to make it easier for Radio plays.

What grey areas have you got on this kind of topic?

Sometimes a dub mix is just a different version of a track.
I'm with Dave here tho, it's something you pick up by listening, I'm sure if you have any questions or whatever if you post them the [i:Vibes] community will help.

i got 'dub' versions of tracks which is the main tune taken out of the track, so its everything else... but it is obviously a remix where something has been taken out.

i always say '? remix' rather than '? mix' anyway, has a clearer meaning of what it actually is... edit n remakes are sumtimes shorter version or agen; remixes...

if it sounds gud, who cares!? Razz
