Some really greats ch00ns such as "Believe", "Forever (Aspekt Mix)", "Kallocian (Robert Nickson Remix)" and "Gravity" , while the rest is either quite good, okay + or standard. I'm not sure about the mixing, but I think I'll check it out Smile Wink

I think it's a poor promotion by Anjunabeats. They don't let A&B mix any tunes they want, but just their releases...pretty lame.

Hmm I guess I don't think that deeply about these things. To me the tracklisting looks good and I know that A&B are competant mixers so whether or not the tunes were entirely their choice or not doesn't really matter to me as long as the mix flows well.

That's the idea... a collection of Anjuna's best releases recently.
Rather like the ID&T Trance albums. It's not A&B's own compilation - it's only mixed by them.

Um yeah, its called "Anjunabeats Vol. 2" for a reason...

And lets not forget that 2 of the 3 members in Above & Beyond actually run Anjunabeats.

Its what you would expect from an album, the best tracks from the label.

Nothing to stop A&B releasing their own mix compilation of tracks they would play in a DJ set.

If it's a collection of Anjunabeats tunes, that's fine; but why mix them? I understand the promotion value of a CD that has tunes from a label, but mixing them together somewhat ruins the effect.

I agree; I'd rather have fewer, but unmixed tracks on such a collection. The premise of such a collection means that the flow of the mix will usually not be good when mixed. (At least that is the case for the ID&T Trance albums).
But as long as the mixing is not too long on it, then I don't care.

To be honest I think I prefer a continuous set rather than each track played separately. If the full versions of songs are played through with their lengthy intros and outros then this can get quite tedious. If they are not the original full versions, but cut down full versions, or heaven forbid - radio edits then you don't get to hear the full track anyway.

Perhaps the mood the set creates may suffer because of the lack of choice but I think that the actual transitions from track to track should work well. Most of the tracks on Anjunabeats share a similar sound making them easy to mix seemlessly - in theory Very Happy

As a CDJ, I can tell you that I would far prefer the unmixed versions of the tracks, rather than have a mix with a rather limited selection of tracks. A lot of tracks are hard to find on CD, and I've used mixed tracks quite often when I mix, but I don't like to; it's a horrible pain in the arse, and makes my already mediocre mixing sound like Tijs on acid.

I suppose it's how I view the use of the CD; you're in it for pure musical pleasure, while I have a more buisnesslike use for my CD's.

Yes, just what I was thinking. I produce my own stuff and I find I can learn how tracks are put together much easier from 12" mixes, where elements are introduced gradually than I can from shorter or mixed tracks where 1001 sounds are all playing at the same time. I also sample the occasional loop or hit too... but don't tell Very Happy . The mood I'm in, as well as what I want to accomplish at a given time determines whether I prefer to hear mixes or single tracks.

The transitions and mixing are fine, just doesn't have much of a flow. But if there's fifteen or less tracks on the CD than you'll have a pretty good length for each track. I want there to be a clear track transition. It's annoying when they mix all but 3-4 minutes of each track - the sounds blend together and sound terrible, plus you're not getting much of each tune.
