The Decline of Trance

Now don't get me wrong, I luv all my classics and even recent stuff like Tiesto's stuff gets me pumped in my car or at a club. But what happened to the trance that I could listen by myself and not have to get hyped for. The tre trance that I could listen to with diskman or ipod while at the pool or beach. Doesn't exist. Now I havent followed the scene for the last year or so but I left it after the summer of 03. And just in case i get some flaming for not seeing it live that summer I saw Tiesto, Darude, a couple Miami DJS and other lesser known artists to get the whole spectrum. Now I would love for the experts out there to explain to me whats going on. For now its all bout the downtempo!!!!

Its shfted to a more progressive style. There does not seem to be much going on in many of the tracks released, they just dont seem to have that emotion tagged to them or epic breakdowns.

The kind of stuff AvB spins is far to on the progressive side. Markus Scutltz and co can be just a bit boring for me. It needs some energy pumped back into it.

As Armin said it: "For me trance is everything from progressive to banging techno!" Trance is getting more mixed with other genres nowadays, such as progressive and techno + that uplifting trance is more or less dead -> instead we hear a lot of powerful, yet melodic trancers. I think the development the last couple of years has been good for the scene, but sometimes I get a bit tired of trance to be honest. Then I put on some house and progressive... Very Happy

Personally I like the new sounds coming out of the genre. I still have a place in my heart for all the classic old epic trance tracks, but it was getting a bit stale I thought. The same formula was being used over and over.

In my opinion people like Schulz, Gabriel and Dresden, Probspot, Elevation, and Greyarea are some of the best producers in many years.

I only picked up about 12 records last year in total due to most of it being garbage.

Armin, Markus, G&D, Probspot are making trance as dull as feck. Trance is not dead, just the better music went more underground.

rave has never quite died imo, rave music died because it moved on to other genres. Trance is not dead, just too many producers are making the same crap with no emotion to make more money (l-vee, mike, avb, markus and others)
